Ok so this kid in my neighboorhod has a 88 GT..1st of all he tried telling me it was a roush?...i think not becuase he put cobra emblms on his car and said they were roush emblms..how stupid and then he says he has 325 PLUS to the wheels with a flowmaser catback a CAI and possiblyyy a cam (witch im still not sure about) but i have a 01 Camaro SS SLp package completly stock..and he is convinced he will just blow me away i have 8000 miles on my car..my car isnt even broken in yet he has 180k on the clock..people drive me INSANE

I amazes me how the 5.0 mustangs are hailed around where I live. It deeply pisses me off to see some little gangster w/ his 5.0 drivin with his seat back and his arm outstretched on the steering wheel. didn't like mustangs already, but 5.0 drivers around here top the cake.

Not all 5.0 drivers are like "Wana be Ricers" like that jackass with the 88GT. I've seen quite a few camaro drivers that look and act just as bad. In any domestic car group your still going to have the "Wana be Ricer." So don't label all 5.0 owners just as you don't want to be labeled with the Ricer camaro owners. Personally I own a 5.0. I have few friends with LS1's and they have my respect. Very nice cars!

Its the civic of v8's. Alot of ricers are converting to 5.0's. They finaly get a car with some torque and they think they can smoke anything. This is coming from a 5.0 owner.

I met the dumbest F-body owner the other day, claimed his LS1 Z28 came with 3.73's, told me my 88 5.0 came stock with 280 hp, and informed me that the "tornado" he had added to his exhaust was a real performance enhancer. Refused to listen when I told him his car was probably a 3.23 or 2.73 and the GU4/GU2 code could confirm this.

Point and case, every villiage has its Idiot. I know plenty of dumb F-body/mustang/rice, etc. But I also know a lot more that are not. So please, curb the generality of the statement,no? As to the 5.0 idiot you know, he has probably 210-230 rwhp, 230 being VERY optomistic. the 180K miles are not hurting him it its in good shape, plenty of 200K 5.0's dyno 190+ rwhp. It is a very durable motor IF TAKEN CARE OF (in his case I suppose that is unlikely, given your description of him.) But yes, 0-60 you should have about 2-4 cars on him (2 being if he forgot to tell you about his 4.10's, 4 being if he has those 2.73's and is auto ) and after that it will just get pointless

The 5.0 is not the new rice car. Pffffft, do you know how much it COSTS to mod a civic? The 5.0 can get 25rwhp for $10 worth of dryer tubing, an oil change to Mobile 1, and a $50 shortbelt. But yes, very sadly I do see people with the same mentality as the civic crowd converting to them Oh well, I guess it is the same mentality that buys a base pony car of any type, puts 20" spinners on it, and rides around with the sterio going. It makes me sick.

5.0's are extremely popular and are thought by a lot of people to be a classic muscle/pony/hotrod car. When youngens get a hold of them, that mindset usually follows.

I think the problem is that 5.0's are getting REALLY inexpensive now. Ive seen poorly taken care of 5.0's in my area, such as a 91 gt that is for sale near my house (135K miles, paint in rough shape for $1500), for a few thousand dollars. These are the cars that these people are buying. They are not buying well taken care of 5.0's, they are buying the rusted out and beat up ones that were never taken care of properly. Then they are throwing a set of flowmasters on them and claiming they are 10 second cars. I can eventually see it happen to lt1 and ls1 f-bodys as the years go on and they get cheaper and cheaper, its just that there is such an abundance of poorly maintained 5.0s around right now that they are being bought up for cheap by clueless car owners. It pains me to see a nice muscle car such as the 5.0 get labeled this way and to see how poorly they are maintained, especially in my area.

I can't believe after all you've read on here, you are still sticking to your 25rwhp with a short belt story. Not gonna happen. You'd be lucky to get 10rwhp. So a stock 5.0 with a short belt is gonna dyno 215 rwhp huh? Remember all the guys I showed you over on the corral only making 217ish rwhp with longtubes/full exhaust, intake, pulley, etc. etc.

Z, dryer tubing under the front bumper is pretty much a ram-air system (not very straight shot though, but worth 10-15rwhp due to the colder air in front of the air dam. Mobile 1 is worth 2 rwhp or so, lol, but is mainly just a good thing if you like high rpms. the shortbelt eliminating the smog pump and the AC is worth another 10-15 rwhp. I belive it is safe to say these cheap mods are worth 25 rwhp. Z, I can show you a head/cam LS1 making 380ish rwhp. That does NOT MEAN that is the avg though. a 5.0 with long tubes, full exhaust,pullies,intake making 217 rwhp has something wrong with it. Not that this is it, but pull a plug wire on your LS1, it would pull ugly numbers too.

well im not gonna say the 5.0 is the new ricer...YET because i did own one..it was quick heads/cam trickflow upper and lower intake, full exhaust, CAI..i felt like i was in a go cart with 300 horse but it seems now that 5.0's are selling so cheap really if i didnt have the money for an ls1 then i probally would have bought another 5.0. but really now all i can see them being good for is pulling the motor and making into a full blown drag car (witch i wont lie i want) or buying one and putting the biggest rear end in it you can fine (possiple a 4:56) haha and slicks and just standing the wheeles at everylight (0-60 et-14 seconds) :

Sorry to call ricer math, but cold air is not good for 10-15rwhp. Not sure you'd get 2 rwhp with the mobil1, and maybe 10rwhp max for the short belt. I've seen many car dyno's on the mustang sites and never heard of 25rwhp with a short belt and gheto ram air. You might gain 10 rwhp with all of those mods.
