LS1 Z28 vs 2005 M3...
So my buddy has a 2005 M3 , we went from a roll at like 50... he pulled about 4-5 cars at 110 and then again from a 40 roll and he got about the same amount of length... First race (50 roll. I was in 3rd) and the second race (40 roll) I was in 2nd. His car has a intake and an exhaust.
My car has stock gearing (6 speed), a SLP lid, Mac Mid-length headers, Y pipe, and SLP loud-mouth catback, and I beleive a 90mm t-body. (bought it with all mods already on it).
Shouldn't I beat this car? Is something up with mine? I'm considering putting it on a dyno to see whats up... but like do M3s have such short gearing that one should walk on me like that? Or is something with my car up?
Thanks

ive got catback and 3.73's with a M6 and i walk m3's all day, i raced my neighbors, i think its an 04? but im not too sure and i put 3/4 on him from 50-105.... check your car, in my opinion you should be beating him, and if not beating him, definatly not getting wlaked on that easy

Yeah, it's a friend and even he thought it was weird he beat me.
He said he thought he saw soem black smoke from the exhaust (rich). I'm starting to think my plugs are fouled.
However I have 3.43s not 3.73s ... and it seemed like he got the jump on me right away and then kinda just stayed there, so maybe its just gearing?
Any other opinions? Anyone raced an M3 with stock gears in an M6?

You probably are running rich if you have the MAC mid-lengths without a tune. Also it sounds like you made a bad gear choice. At 40mph in 2nd with stock gears you aren't in your power band. From a roll I'll drop it down into 2nd at 45+ mph with my 3.73's. It's no wonder he jumped you right away. With stock gears you probably need to be doing more like 50-60mph in 2nd before you gun it, or 70mph in 3rd.

You say you have a 90mm TB?
On a stock intake?
You need to find out exactly what's been done to the car.You also need to find out what state of tune it's in. Put it on a dyno with a wide band hook up.
Check your basic maintenence.(air filter,plugs,wires).
What kind of shape are the o2's in?
If in doubt,change it out.
Finally, see above about putting the car in the proper gear.

M3's do have awesome gearing. I would think he would take you off the line but you should catch him and pass him as speeds increase. Fastest stock time I have ever seen on an e46 M3 is 12.5 with an excellent driver. That is definately not your average time though.

I'm not exact on the MPH... they were just rough guesses. But thanks.
Honestly, when the car is cold, the car feels like its hesitating a bit. Until it warms up it feels like that anyways.
I'm gonna check the plugs, and air filter, and wires, Change whatever needs to be. And then dyno it with a wideband, see what the A/F is, and go from there. Myabe if tuning is needed I'll have to find someone to tune the car around here.
Thanks for the help so far guys.

Also .. found out what is done to my car totally... (from the P/O)
-Mac Mid-Lengths and y-pipe with cats (gutted)
-SLP loudmouth cat-back
-SLP lid
-Gutted MAF
-drilled screw in the t-body (so the butterfly opens more).
***edit*** - forget these...I doubt they matter too much, but here they are anyways...
-160 degree t-stat
-pro 5.0 shifter
I'm still gonna get the reg maintenence done, then dyno it.
Then likely see about getting it tuned. I found out about a guy who does awesome jobs with LS1Edit in Reading.

You are probably putting down 320-330 with your mods Get a tune up, see if your car runs well on a dyno, and get to know your car a little better by going to the track. Then race your friend and win

I ran a Z3-M and was neck/neck 60 to 100 with the guy. Did hte 05 M3's come with a V8? I heard some rumor of something of the nature, but if it is the same 333bhp I6 I think there is a problem with your car ?

So if its an 05 you raced, I wouldn't be surprised at the outcome...
