Have you ever told a kill story to someone that does not have a muscle car and they come back with some outrageous **** like they beat a cobra in a stock escort 4 door??? They are all proud to tell you how they mashed the gas and the dam cobra was in their rear view mirror???

This guy I work with always told me about his buddies '70 GTO he had back in high school (Late '70s) that was "so damn fast" He claimed that it ran "like in the 9's" I called BS on him and told him that in the '70's there was no way this kid had tires for his GTO that would allow him to even come close to numbers like that. He took one ride in my Z when it was bone stock and all he said was "damn! yeah I think you could beat his GTO" what a douche. The problem is that muscle cars from back in the day (other than the super cars like YENCO, 427 'Vettes, BB Cobras) were really not that fast, compared to something like a stock LS1 or S/C Cobra, so some older guys (like the one I work with, that uncle that everyone has that thinks he knows everything, etc..) really have no idea, and tend to start running their mouths.
(please note that I said some-not all older guys)

Happen's all the time. I just was transferred to manage a restaruant in Puallup, Wa,
and as soon as the crew see's my car they start in.
One guy used to have a '69 mustang with a 352, [ yes, he said 352], 4 bbl that ran 9's, but can't remember all the mod's he had done. Several people know "someone" locally who have honda's and acura's in the 10's, and one server had a stock saturn ion that ran mid 11's, but her mom made her sell it.
I just listen to these guy's and grin.
And no, the older muscle car's for the most part were not fast by today's standard's.
I had a 71 Roadrunner, 383 ci., 3.91 posi, lt's, edelbrock intake manifold, dual point ignition with a holley 4bbl.
Best run ever was a 14 flat on cool day. Slow, but back then there was not many car's that could touch it in the small town I lived in.

There are some that ran 13's. And this is with prehistoric suspensions, tires made for a van, and age-old tuning. Not to mention the absence of everything else that could help, like better transmissions, rearends and what have you.

The 440 Magnun BB was just crazy for its time. the Chevy 454 and Daimler's 426 Hemi were very impressive too. There's a couple more im forgetting also.
These are cars that redline under 5000 Rpms, yet with all those factors they still managed times like those.
Im not saying the older cars are faster, thats simply not true. But they had alot more power. Over 400 ft lbs of torque with little to no effort.
Just look at the new big block motors. Like the 502, 383 and 572.
They're pushin 500+ hp and the big 572 has 620hp/720hp.

720 hp, with no S/C, N20, Turbo, or nothing. Only a big block can do that. You just have to give them respect.
And most of all, the way a big block sounds with True 4" Duals, no mufflers or cats will make any LS1 **** it pants before the race starts.
My old man has a 454 in one of his works trucks, and when it idle's, it just sits there and rocks backs and forth. It's unbelievable.
The truck has a 1500lb sander on the back, and it will light the tires up @ 35 mph in the city, anytime, anywhere.

The best is when people go, "Man, I bet that thing is one hell of a gas guzzler." Then when I say it gets over 30mpg on the highway they are in disbelief. "No way man, theres no way." When I went to Lubbock to see my brother about 2 months ago, I got over 30mpg the way there and back, **** is hilarious!

My boy was drinking with some of his work buddies and when the conversation turned to sportscars he mentoned mine i guess. He tells me that almost immideately this dude with a completely stock Integra comes out w/some **** that he kills V8 camaros all day. My boy dosent have much car knowledge but he says he could tell this guy was so obviously full of **** it wasnt worth the argument. My aunt used to have a 70 something nissan Z and will swear it would beat a Corvette ...yea. The best is when you start talking about top speeds. I had a thug tell me that after he put a new carb and muffler on his 83 caprice classic he did 185. You wouldnt think there was a car in the world that hadent at least done 150 if you went by word of mouth alone. The best i ever heard though hands down was some fat bitch tell me her non turbo non awd early 90s talon will do like 200 "cause thats what the speedometer says".
