Default My 00' TransAm Ws6 Vs. 72' Chevelle 572

Well I had the joy of racing a 72' chevelle with a 572 crate in there, i believe the 620 horse model, and it seemed like it was an auto. We went from a roll of 30 -80 or so.
I canned it and it spun for a while and he seemed to hook up better, i dont know how. He pulled more right away then continued to pull at a constant rate. If i had to guess by 80-85 he had me by about 5-6 cars. We were heading to town so he let off.
With me not flooring it so bad right away and stepping it more gradual i think i could have cut close to a car length less away but still there was no chance in victory!

I will race him next season with some NOS and hopefully 4.11's and slicks.

Just wanted to see how my car stacked up to a big boy 572.
The passenger waved the whole time, yes i will enjoy waving to them next year hopefully...of course its a guy who doesnt know anything about cars just has someone do everything then get in and turn the key.

Wow, what a hater! Why is it if someone has some money (likely from hard work, going to school, etc) and has something nice people got to hate? If I have the money, I would go to Lingenfelters with $200 and have them do me a bad *** vette. I do some of my own work, and have lots of stuff professionally done. Could be thats why I waste most any car I have run up against.
P.S., he has a classic chevelle with the best new crate motor available...how is it he doesn't know anything about cars.

quit whining and talking like a ricer (I'll have NOS, 4.11's and slicks next time). You sound just like the honda guys that say their getting a turbo and they will race me then! crybaby!!!!

Here is my whining...

...Just wanted to see how my car stacked up to a big boy 572.

Hoping to improve my car and win next time is such a whiny and "honda guy" comment.

I dont have a problem with someone having money and having work done to thier car. Its just certain types of ppl are harder to lose to when they bearly know how to change thier oil. and if most stuff is just handed to them

Anyway enough arguing and back to talkin about cars....

To tell you the truth I didnt hear him much at all when i was racing because i have a cutout and my car is obnoxiously loud...so i mostly heard mine.
But right b4 we raced i heard him fly by it sounded pretty nice and healthy. Not overly loud.
I have not heard him idle tho.
620hp 650tq is a pretty good monster

For what it's worth, a properly set up Shuvel with a 572 should 9's easy all day long.

Even with the **** and gears you "shouldn't" have a prayer.

Anywho, nice death!

Oh, and SDB you need to give me the number for your guy at Lingenfelter. If they're building badass Vette's now for $200 I'll be up there first of the week to pick one up

Yea but your getting into bench racing and HP #'s now, that's got nothing to do with how a car is set-up and what it will actually do.

In a real dragrace, yes, you "shouldn't" have a chance if the old school iron is set up right.

According to your sig you're on a stock rear w/ a M6, that'd hurt you the most.

If the Chevelle is in typical street/strip trim with a TH400 and properly matched conv., and a 12lbt/9'', it should 60 in the 1.3-.4 range and run easy 9's in the 1/4.

Now that's assuming. For all I know he could have a T56 with a rear out of a S-10, full interior and a million subwoofers.

What does your car dyno btw...

Ya, his car is a street chevelle, not race setup. I agree if it was setup right i could be killed. But its set up similar to mine, it willl have traction issues maybe not as much with an auto. It has street tires on it as well. I would guess its a mid 11 second to low 11 second car with its setup. Slicks would drastically change that.

Never had it dyno'd, the guy i bought it from about a month ago gave me a dyno and said that the mods for that dyno included the headers, ls6intake, eliminated maf and cutout...354rwhp and like 340 tq i think...close to that
I have not seen the "updated dyno" he said with race gas and timing up a bit and the heads and big cam of course it dynod 464rwhp...is what he said.
I will somewhat verify that at the track next weekend.
i only ran 113 mph last time but my clutch crapped out soon as i left the track.

haha i dont know much about the s-10 rears...i plan on getting a 9" with 4.10's or 4.30 gears. Gotta keep the full interior.
Would it be so bad to shift into 5th gear if a guy ran outta gear in 4th ??

Yea i plan on a 408 turbo setup in the future so ill prly go 4.11's i guess...just wondering if going into 5th was bad or why ppl dont. Is it losses?
Yes i "have heard i should be" in the 11's or close but the dumb thing is messed up, using oil etc. Ill know more after next weekend track...look at traps and hope for like 119mph.

nice,
there are some articles in either chevy hiperformance and or hotrod...they did a dyno and made the 620 numbers much higher with a few small mods...
look into it.
Good luck, those are nasty motors.
