Actually I might be the one under the rock as all my law enforcement experience comes from working the south side of Chicago, so things tend to get rough from time to time. From a strictly legal standpoint, if I were to ask you to do something, like turn your music down because it's in violation of our local sound ordinance, and you told me to **** off, you could be arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting/obstructing a police officer, and whatever else I could think of after scanning the criminal code. If you were just to come up to me out of the blue and say **** off for no reason I could charge you with disorderly conduct. Not that I would, but I could.

all right i see point taken thank you. this would vary from place to place could it not? the point i am interested in is the being arrested for disorderly conduct for the cursing for no reason, I am not arguing or anything you seem to know more about this than me i always though you could say almost any thing you want because of freedom of speech. I know as a soilder there are alot of things that people can do and no legal action can be taken against them, I am talking about military police also.

What comes around goes around. It use to happen to me 20 years ago. Now I do not donate money in any way to my local police, I vote against anything that has to do with police. Pay raises, improvements, new jobs, or whatever.
It all stems for cops doing this crap instead of handling people in a respecful manner.

The problem is lack of education that you need to be a cop. But then again anyone that offers you a job while handing you a gun and says "you may need this" just has to be a dumb *** in the first place.

I have friends who are cops and have been on good terms with many others over the years and they are cool people, but the other 80% out there are on power trips. After all they are human beings, not gods, so I guess we just need to realize they have their faults too and deal with it in our own individual ways.

So as I understand it:

He indicates he is a cop and that you are too loud.
This pisses you off.
You say you are going to report him.
He says that he is going to write you a ticket then.

I dont know the specifics, but heres my take:
You pull up blasting you music which not everyone wants to hear at 8 million decibels. Rather than just have a cop ticket you for that, this guy just tries to quiet you down without shouting. Without some annoying "excuse me sir...". He tries to use a simple gesture. Which is sorta his job since Cops are supposed to keep stuff like that in check per local ordanances, on or off duty. But you decide to get real pissed about it and report this guy who was trying to do his job without resorting to paper work.

Good for the cop. I dont know you, but that's BS man. This guy tried to enforce a local ordanace without getting you into trouble and you take some BS tough guy attatude and say you're going to report him for it. You're the one who gave him a hard time first. Simply indicating a badge and gun does not constitute intimidation. I guess you might be worried about it if you are doing illegal stuff. Like maybe blasting your music too loud. But if a cop tried to warn me without a ticket or anything formal when I was being an *** I would be thankful. I wouldnt be a punk and tell him I am going to report him and basicly throw that courtesy right back in his face.

Maybe I am missing something, but to me it sounds like you took one gesture thats easaly mis understood and decided to call it "intimidation" and act like an *** to the cop. Did it occur to you that maybe he was not trying to show the gun, that maybe his badge was just in an ackward spot to show you?

What branch/unit were you in?

Edit:
Because frankly I don't think you fought for **** in ****. A serviceman that cant spell Iraq correctly? "C" is not next to "Q" on my keyboard. And none of the servicemen I have talked to speak that way. The ones that do talk tough are usually clerks and other REMFs who have not fired a shot off the range. Thats info from a Marine BTW along with family members.

If I am wrong I apollogize right now. But I'm not wrong.

Hey stockz you might want to type you’re text in word than cut and paste. Also what the hell are so many cops doing in the street racing section? My Dad was a cop for 18 years there are cops with power trips than there are good cops. I tell you what sucks worse than a power trip cop is being a cop’s kid my Dad was also Sheriff for 8 of them years. I was not the favorite at parties when I was back in school. It also has its perks when you get stopped for speeding.

All municipalities have codes against disorderly conduct, most of those codes include cursing. It's one thing to curse to yourself, it's another thing to make a scene because of your language, it's also another thing to deliberately curse at a cop, the two latter instances can get you a ticket or arrested, it depends on how the cop wants to handle the situation. It's one thing to have freedom of speech to have the ability to express your views without government interference. It's another to deliberately make a scene using profane language, which is against the law. Hope this helps. Thanks for serving my country by the way.

Still the way the cop "attempted" to tell this kid to turn down his music wasn't something they trained in the academy I'm sure. He SHOULD have walked over to this dudes car and either tell him to keep it down or write a ticket there. END OF STORY. NOT go inside the bank and write a ticket BECAUSE this dude got smart with him. You can try to justify all you want the cop handled it poorly because of the huge chip on his shoulder. Youngins will be youngins.... we were all there. -Mark

Thankfully the Cops in the UK are not armed they are big enough *** holes without putting a gun in there hands!

I cringe when I see your cop programs when you here those loud mouthed cops screaming for people to get out of thre cars while waving their guns around. It' like a wild west movie! Cowboys come to mind!

And your Police chases are hilarious 1 guy being chased by 20 cops cars!

That would never happen in the UK! 2 -3 cars maybe!

And cops can't speak to you like your something thay have stepped in! They have to treat you with respect which something that looks like it sorely lacking in a lot of your gun happy cops! IMO

WOW this is funny. I can agree that they didn't teach the cop that in the academy but its plenty of stuff they can't teach because of soooo many situations that anyone could run into. I will agree that "in a perfect world the officer should have gone over, introduced himself and asked nicely for him to turn down his music" But also in a perfect world" the guy should not have had his music blasting in a public place" I'll be the first to say that I LOVE to listen to RAP loud as hell but I also know that some of the **** I listen to may be offensive and just plain too loud for others, so I blast it on the x-ways and turn it down in the city. You say we were all young guns and that's true but we also have to teach our younger guns not to make the mistakes we have made and to own up to there "wrong doing" if that happens to be the case.
