Default WRX vs SS vs S4

Well I was on my way home from Philly and driving down RT1 when I see a brand new S4 trying to catch up to me. I slowed down and he started to pace me. He honked off 3 and off we went. I'd never run the new S4's with the V8 so I didn't know what was going to happen. But the WRX pulled fairly well on it.

Well I guess a SS saw us playing and wanted in on the action (anyone here? Red SS on RT1 on Sunday the 11th). All 3 of us lined up at about 40mph. The S4 hit it early and got the jump on us. We both pulled him in quick and I started to walk the SS till he went by me pretty quick at about 75mph or 80mph. We hit the next light and chatted for a second. He said he had some bolt ons and 150shot of N02. Said he wasn't going to spray me at 1st but didn't want to lose when I stated pulling. I can't blame him, if I had N02 I would have sprayed him back.

The S4 just sat behind us after that. We honked and went on our way. It was a fun run, made the trip home a little more enjoyable.

Sadly even if I had my camera with me, I was alone and wouldn't have been able to shoot it.

Nice runs man. Sounds like you had a smile on your face. I've yet to run an S4.

What mods do you have? Just wondering. I dont know much about WRXs and I was curious what mods it takes to match and bolt-ons LS1 f-body, lets assume the LS1 isnt running NOS My friend just got a modded WRX (not sure what the mods are) we cant wait to run when i get home, May seems like too far away.

I'm running a vf39 turbo(stock STi turbo) @ 19psi, injectors, turbo back exhaust/Uppipe, Front Mount Intercooler, Intake, utec piggy back ECU and a street tune. Bunch of other small mods too..

The car ran 12.4@108 before the FMIC and new tune. I'm guessing I picked up 10 to 15 hp. I can really tell the difference with the FMIC. Before I knocking issues once the motor warmed up and was holding me back (curse of a heat soaked Top Mount). No clue what it will run now and I doubt I'll find out. I have an 18g turbo, WI kit and EWG waiting for warmer weather to install it.

My car minus the FMIC is what most would call tuned stg4 WRX.

To date I've run a e/i/preditor flashed(I believe thats what he said) ls1 WS6 Vert and won.

A C6 vert auto with 2 people that I kept up till top of 3rd where he started pulling me. Not sure if he had any mods or not.

And my friends C5 STS which, well I don't think I need to tell you what happen. After this race I started looking HARD into my new project car with is an ls1 going into my IROC.

Wow bro, sounds like a killer DD . My friend has a stock turbo and stock boost (whatever that is) so im guessing i'll come out on top.

LS1 Iroc: the guy who sold me my TA also has a 92 Z-28 with an Ls1 swap and 4.10's... damn thing gets up and GOES... made me think about 3.73s (not 4.10s on my DD). That'll be a fun project for you. Have you considered LS6 or LS2 swap or is that outta your $$$ range?

I currently have an ls1 sourced for a good price. I'm thinking before I drop it in I'll tear it down and do atleast cam and heads. Everyone keeps telling me if I take it that far I might at well do the whole block. Problem there is at some point I want to get it running. I was hoping for a summer project not a year long project. Since I have 2 kids and wife time is hard to come by.

Long story short, the S4 internals are up there with the 03 cobras in terms of pushed to the limits. That 150 shot was NOTHIGN to that motor lol. Wait till he upgrades the turbos to the KS04's if he wants to go REALLY fast

Hehe skimmed the thread a little to quickly. The SS was running spray not the S4. And the S4 was the new version with a V8 not the bi-turboed S4.

And while the S4's motor might be up to the horsepower, changing out the turbos is a HUGE task which involves pulling the motor besides the fact that parts for the S4 make parts for the WRX look inexpensive. The guy I got my WRX off of picked up a 2000 S4. So far he's put on a GIAC chip and Diverter values. Down/pipes are so crazy price he's holding off on them. Turbo swap, not gonna happen. Cost is way too much.

You are right though. A swapped S4 is pretty mean. There is a few videos of a guy running 10's with one. Sad part is the cost it took to do it. But if you love the car and have them money, mod away.

I have a 2005 S4 and I run my friend's 2001 SS stock and I have a catback. He only beats me by a car or two each time once he hits fourth gear.

Default S4 hp rating?

^^^

I know the new S4s have a V8, but whats it rated at? Is the the 4.2l? And im assuming their quattros. They're also mid-high 13's in the quater mile, yeah? Just info gathering here. I've only raced an S8, and i ate his *** for lunch. Around here we get a lot of yuppies who wanna try and get past me at the light... i dont usually let them.

340hp/303tq but the big number on them is the 3659lbs. It's a big heavy car, well at least next to mine it is. But if you have ever been in an S4 you would know the car is NOT all about performance. My friends is crazy nice on the inside.

Ok, not as quick as i thought, but you are right, they're not straight-line accelorators. But i'd take an S4/6/8 any day, they're startin to look really sexy compared to what they were in the early 2000's... a little less "plain jane"

You post very quickly to my replies, you must live on the east coast... oh wait, you do.

I only mention this because most people are still asleep when i post, Im doing a semester in Italy right now (relegating me to the level of "bench-racer" for three whole months! ), and Im 9 hours ahead of California, but i guess im only 6 hours ahead of you... making it 9:30 your local time?? Its 3:30pm here.

Some company called AEMS or something makes a kit that has EVERYTHING needed for a KS04 swap for only 3k, what a KB blower runs for a cobra in the cheaper instances. those KS04 turbos are NASTY. The motor doenst always have to come out to swap turbos does it?

A KO4 Car with the right tuning will be quite fast, however the newest thing is gt28's which are quite a bit faster. Yes the motor pretty much needs to come out to do this turbo swap but you will have in what my opinion is the ultimate 4door sleeper with over 400+hp on pump gas, this is with KO4's the GT28's will put high 4's to the wheels with a decently safe tune, but not to many people have gone to GT28's yet but there are a few around me. Pretty cool cars, but I am biased. Love my 2005 V8 S4 though.

If you want a quick sale then NASIOC.com. If you want to get the most money out of it, ebay it.

Depending on the miles on it expect anywhere from $250.00 to $350.00. They really don't sell for much considering the vf30/vf34 are so close in size that any map for the vf39 will work with either turbos. And the vf34 sells for $500.00 to $600.00 with the same miles.

3k for a turbo swap isn't cheap in my book. I know there are two of them but considing I just spent $650.00 for an 18g.

And the company you are thinking of is AWE.
Year(s) Body Drivetrain Transmission Part# Price
2001 - 2002 ALL Quattro 6 speed manual 01-02 RSK04 Turbo/Fueling Kit WITH Manifolds $8,045.00

2001 - 2002 ALL Quattro 6 speed manual 01-02 RSK04 Turbo/Fueling Kit WITHOUT Manifolds $5,250.00

2001 - 2002 ALL Quattro 6 speed manual 01-02 RSK04 Fueling Kit, separate from turbo kit $2,395.00

2000 Sedan Quattro 6 speed manual 00 RSK04 Turbo/Fueling Kit WITH Manifolds $8,345.00

2000 Sedan Quattro 6 speed manual 00 RSK04 Turbo/Fueling Kit WITHOUT Manifolds $5,550.00

2000 Sedan Quattro 6 speed manual 00 RSK04 Fueling Kit, separate from turbo kit $2,695.00

The 3k you are talking about is the fuel system not the turbos. Understand you need the fuel system, turbos and manifolds(depending on the turbos you might not need this) to do a swap in the S4 and that kit is $8,345.00. Now add onto that the fact that you NEED to pull the motor to swap out the turbos and you can see why there aren't more 400+awhp S4's on the road.

Like I said, I love the cars but they make parts for my WRX seem inexpensive.
