The LS1's and LS2's stock hp #'s don't compare to the 6.1 Hemi we all know that. But IMO its the ease of taking an LS1 or LS2 up to and past the 6.1 Hemi's 425 hp flywheel rating that makes the LS series the ****!

I agree the aftermarket for the LS1 makes them more desirable and accessible. My guess is that the aftermarket will catch up with the HEMI 6.1 in the future. The availability of aftermarket parts for classic MOPARS led to believe that. This engine will become a classic too. Both the LS1 and the HEMI 6.1 are writing their place in history, the LS1 started to write it earlier!!

In reality the LS1 should be compared to the 5.7 Hemi and the LS2 compared to the 6.1 Hemi. I want to drive one w/o the torque management because the R/T I drove just didn't represent 390 lb ft!

The Hemi has a long hard road in front of it to catch up to the LS1 in aftermarket support.

The old Hemis had a decent aftermarket, but nothing like the SBCs did. The interchangeability of the Chevys is what makes them great.

I ran into aSRT8 300 tonight. Never got a chance to really race him but I did launch on him from 20 and really suprised him. We stopped and talked really a cool kid. Nice car He said it ran 12.7 and all he has done is straight pipes. His buddy was following him and me in a SRT 10 truck and after he saw me launch called his buddy in the 300 and told him to back off. He didn't want any ofthe Z when he saw the juice. I ran 12.9 off the juice and really think those cars would be good matches for any stock LS1

They look aggressive.

I thought the aftermarket was pretty limited?

I've looked on the internet for shops/stores and have only found the headers/exhaust kits from Stainless works. I know a guy who claims to have a pretty well modded one with a small cam (apparently). Is that even possible?

Those SRT-10's just don't "feel" all that fast....maybe its because of how much they weigh???

LS2 = 400hp/400Tq
Hemi 6.1 = 425hp/420Tq

I said that wrong I meant we all know the 6.1's have more flywheel hp than the LS1 and LS2.

Here's my advice...don't mess with one at the light unless you have some moddage. You WILL get beat by a stock SRT-8 Charger or SRT-8 300 if you're rollin stock. They have 425 HP stock. They could have a car full of people and still have a chance against a stock LS1.
