And a little poem...
Today we salute you Mr. "Post Whoring Internet Racer". While it is a popular
belief that racing should be done at a track, you hold steady in your
beliefs that you know what your car will run because some guy
somewhere on some corner of the internet said so. Most people find out
what their car will run in a matter of seconds, but not you... Instead you
spend hours decifering the altitude, humidity, barometric pressure, and
date of the month that ImaOG433LS1Wayne made his pass on. While
noone really knows if he even has a car... you know your's will run just
as good. You dont need to waste gas, time, tires, or nitrous to know your
fast... all you have to do is type it. John Force... So what if he won 13
championships... your internet predictions say you'll run 3s.
That guy with a twin turboed Big block... why waste your time...
That guy that was making 8 second passes at a real track...let
him get on the internet and you'll show him who's really fast. Crack
open a budlight Mr. "Post Whoring Internet Racer"... actually
crack open twelve, because you sir dont have to drive to race! "
Credit goes to Jeff "383" Linton for this little ditty.

Tks. Wish I could take credit for it all, but I did steal em all fair n square.
On a more serious note....for those interested (not for Mr. Trophy), 'sponsorship' was mentioned earlier in this thread. For anybody that doesn't have a load of their own cash to spend, sponsorship of some sort is a near necessity at just about any level of heads-up drag racing. The faster you get, the more it becomes necessary.
In 2004 (my championship year), I started off with no fulltime sponsors, and with exactly one shop's sticker on my car - Steen Racing. That shop is local, and the owner (Jason Steen) and I have been friends for 10 years. I put Jason's stickers along the bottom of my car, and Jason give me a good cut on labor for things like motor install(s). Here's a pic of the Cobra at the first race in 2004 - Bradenton, FL:
Apologize for the small size, but notice the lack of stickers.
After I won the first couple of races, I was fortunate enough to have sponsors coming to me. Not with loads of cash, but with a part here, a part there, and a bit more from what turned out to be my primary sponsor that year, Detroit Truetrac. It DOES help. Anyway, as the year progressed, the car was 'stickered up' more and more....
4th Race of the year...Kansas City, Mo.
8th (last) race of the year....Bowling Green, Ky.
Quite a difference. The moral is that even though you might not have sponsors early in a season, if you do well, they will come.
It is ashame that none the start-up F-body series' ever really got going. Maybe one of these days.
Ok....carry on.

By the way, I almost fell off my office chair laughing at the stuff going on in the thread since my last post. Good ole office entertainment!

Wow I feel like I lost some brain cells reading that. Props to the Stang guys for keeping their cool and humor under the mound crap that was thrown at them. Having grown up when the 3rd Gens and the Fox bodies were the kings of the road there is no doubt the 5.0L LX was the quickest. Best looking, to me, was the T/A GTA's before their last body change. I didn't own either a 3rd Gen or a Fox Stang (I had a '79 T/A back then) but saw enough race to know what was what. Oh and the newest Stangs are some of the best looking cars out there, but some of their owners do seem to have an attitude about them. Heh, ironic coming from a Vette guy
