Ran a friend of mines 98GT the other day. My car is an Auto his has a 5 sp. We kind of knew the outcome but wanted to see. I think he thought he might keep up with me cause his dad has a 96 cobra and talks down on my car. Same guy who told me WHEN i get into the 14's let him know and we would race. Pretty much saying my car was a 15+ sec car. I was like ok.... Back to the race. We line up and i pull on him like crazy up to 90 and i shut it down. He said i had like 8 cars on him and i took his word on it since he had the better view. So i would assume in a 1/4 i would have had 10+ cars on him. Needless to say now he knows that i would outrun his dad's cobra as well.

not sure why he thought that?? Kind of one of those SVT are god guys. I didnt really say anything back to him. He did say when his son got the GT it would be a good run with my Z. I agree the 96 Cobra vs my car will be a good run but for him to think i am 1 sec behind his stock car is crazy!!

 

Unless his 96 Cobra is modded quite well you'll walk all over him. Those cars need gears (4.30+) to be competitive.

 

That and the 4V Cobras were sadly overrated back then. My SS Stock ran one down that was procharged! At least the guy was decent. It was back in 2000, he said he had 400rwhp, i said 300rwhp (stock LS1).

 

you need to call his dad out bug him to race you until he does.if he says no,bug him everytime you see him.make the point that he was confident about it,so whats the problem?

 

Something wasn't running right with the Cobra. TRUST me I've had PLENTY of experience with the 96-98 4V Cobras back in the day. They respond VERY well to boost...I mean VERY well.

A boosted Cobra should have had no problem with your stock SS.

 

Yeah right, maybe if the Cobra was running on 6 cylinders or something...

you should be able to walk the cobra depending on the mods. 96-98 cobras are close to 99-04 gts. 96 with an average driver is a high 13 second car. so if you got an a4 figure out some traction put it in drive and put your foot through the floor and show him your taillights. by the way picking on a 96-98 gt is like picking on the slow kid in school.

 

I kind of figured that. Didnt want to come accrossed like i beat the **** out of a stang. It was more of a self defense race. My friend and his dad were like gt=z28 STV>Z28 so i had to defend myself. I knew the mid 90's 2v mustangs were not the best Ford has put out. I will get that Cobra out on the rd someday. Trying...

 

do it up. i have a mustang and am a ford guy. but i have a ton of respect for all fast cars. and for some reason i have a soft spot for ls1 cars. so arrogant people be it ford or whoever need to be put in their place. so show him some tail lights let your car do your sh*t talking. one reason i spend so much time on this site is the old saying keep your friends close but your enemys closer.

 

Oh you have to put the cobra in it's place!!! With a SUPURB driver below sea level they'll hit 13's stock, otherwise it's a mid-low 14 with an average driver. I used to beat those in my GTP with minor bolt on's, it was always fun because they were so damn cocky to my family car.

They are kinda right on the gt=Z28 as long as it's a 3rd gen Z!

Yeah i am not going to talk down on the cobra. Actually i really like it. It is a white 96 w <40k on it. Very good shape. Love the car just not his attitude towards my car. And he really never said anything bad about my car just doesnt know about the LS1/LT1 cars. Hell I hate to ask him what he thinks he would do to a Lt1??

 

true they are really nice cars but just whoop his *** and make him bow down to the LS1! I'm fixing to toture a mystic cobra with a few mods but i get the feeling I'm gonna get sprayed(he's a nitrous junkie) but I'm not worried I got a little extra something for him already if he does spray me?
