Noway a 3rd Gen with any amount of power would hit 200 mph before wrecking, falling apart, taking flight etc.......unless it had the suspension and such to handle it.

Hell I had a 2002 SS making more to the ground than your 3rd gen and I wouldnt go above 160 or so in that in fear of the same things Ive already mentioned. It takes more than just power to go that fast.

Im not going to argue this with the naysayers cus we already had a thread and people ignored facts. But seriously dude, you started a thread over this???? You obviously have too much time on your hands. I just read through my posts in the other thread and none of them seemed illogical and I clearly stated that it was by no means safe to do those speeds. Can someone lock this up before it turns into another flame war? I will post the vid in due time, until then Im tired of hearing about this ****.

Come on, man just admit you stepped in it. You've asked to lock both threads and neither has been locked. Just admit you exaggerated. You'll NEVER post a vid because you can't...especially on a freeway. You will kill or be killed or both go to prison without ever hitting 200 or 190 even. Get real and man up for crying out loud.

I'll give you 150..I'm pretty sure a majority of us will agree on that.

and...the vast majority of us can run that in 5th gear if you're an M6 on 3.42's.

If you guys won't believe that a third gen has good aerodynamics please explain how these guys got one up to 300 at bonneville.

http://www.kugelkomponents.com/bonne...onneville.html

With some cheap aero mods (duct tape, lowering, skinnies) and stiffer springs I don't think 190 would be out of the question for a high horsepower third gen. But then again what the hell do I know, I'm just a mullet wearing, trailer trash, 3rd gen owner myself.

The safety issue is the only one that concerns me in this whole story, my turd gen's got more power than smokeys, but I wouldn't run it up to 180-190 without brand new tires on a clean road/runway and a complete and thorough suspension overhaul. I just don't trust my abilities to control any vehicle at that speed on public unprepped roads. You push your luck too many times for no reason, and it eventually runs out.

oh ****, capn done got the merv all riled up, i believe the 402 iron block would roll out on a 600 hp 3rd gen. lets start a new thread to get them to race!!!

heres my 2c. it takes a long *** road to get up in those speeds around 200. a lot longer than i would stay in my car. i dont think that capn would be that much of a moron to actually try it. as he has stated. i think a speculation based on numbers and assumptions got blown out of proportion to the point that somebody started a thread to keep the **** talking going. and i really cant believe this thread is not locked.

The 3rd gen Firebird was the most slick of the F-body models past and present, with a CD of .29.
Some of you older people might remember the bird in the pics below from magazine articles or from the G11.It's a twin turbo V8 Trans Am that had around 650 HP.I was very surprised to see it,as I was a teenager when I read about it 15-16 years ago.I talked to one of the GM staff members at the show and he told me they had the car to 217 mph before the back end started to lift.Notice the fuel door has been moved towards the back of the car.
I thought some of you might find this interesting.

So 217mph from around 650hp (whp or bhp?) . Pretty impressive imho. Captain smokes-a-lot claims 600bhp on spray with a c of d about 10% worse. Seems like he could theoretically do 190ish like he originally claimed.

Of course that car was built by professionals and was probably 15 years newer than his when it did 217. More fuel for the fire.

I'm not doubting you on that at all..I have done it in stock LS1 M6 Cars..
Past that is when **** starts to get interesting..

- Gear ratios (tranny / rear end)
- Power level
- Coefficient of drag
- Aerodynamic mods

Of course, proof would be the best bet.

But hey, I'll just "take up" for a Ford guy.

I'll tell you right now that my car isn't capable of 200mph...and I'm
pretty damned sure that I'd stomp the 3rd gen in question.

Use the search function and sift through my 20,000+ thousand posts
then you can pass judgement on me. Until then....shhhhhh.

I'm not saying you should take up for him, I'm not even sure it's possible...I'm just saying that every post I see from you is just you defending someone who drives a Mustang.

I know he has a Camaro.I can read fine, and don't have to use caps to get my point across either.I posted earlier because someone said a 3rd gen couldn't hit 200 mph in the first quote.I did forget to mention it was a GM test car,but it does have the same body panels as the production car right down to the spoiler. The wheels, engine, and trans are different.
Take a deep breath and back away from your keyboard for a little while. It's only the internet.

It's all good.If the said Camaro does try a high speed run,he better have that hood pinned down.I think any extended speed above 170 in a 3rd gen Camaro will pull the stock hood up and into the windshield. That's alot of wind rushing under the hood above the headlights.Headlight covers could be a good investment too.
