This my friends buddy has a 2000 audi s4, pretty stock I think, and wants to race me for money. My ls1 ran a 13.7 in the quarter and is an auto. Im thinkin of racing at either a 55 mph or 25 mph, my auto would do good in either. You think I will have a good chance, reason im wondering is that I guess he beat a kid we know's 3000gt vr4 pretty bad, so idk, does tht mean its modded?

I ran the same thing my first time out. Was a very hot day, and I had longtube's, exhuast and lid too :-/ When it turned night time I clicked off a 13.6, and then I came back that saturday in the morning when it was cooler and ran 13.4 with no change's, even had more gas, just the bit cooler weather in the morning made the dif.
If you don't spin, 25-30mph is a nice point to go from a roll, but start at first, don't leave it in drive, waiting for it to downshift will give him the edge, it pulls nice and hard in first too and you don't have to wait for it to downshift. Just upshift to second right away even before it reach's the rpm u want, it won't change till it reach's close to redline anyway on it's own.

Your friends buddy eh? I'm guessing it should be a manual. The B5 S4's are no slouch, when they're taken care of. Many of them upgrade to the RS4 turbos (KO4 I think) and they really start to scream. I'm guessing that he's probably stock-ish at around Stg I or borderline Stg II. Stg. II and up and he's going to give you problems if he's a good driver.
There's a B5 S4 Avant (read: Wagon) that embarrased a few bolt-on LS1's here in Lubbock. He's well modded at what they consider Stg III. Very fast car, a real sleeper. See if you can find out if he frequents any forums and you might be able to get an idea if he's going to be an easy kill or not.

170WHP is about right for a chipped and bolt-on 1.8T. Not an S4. lots of people mistake the 1.8T badges for S4 badges. Lot of idiot kids also rebadge them when their parents give them the car.
The 2.7TT V6 ones (which is what we are talking about here) are pretty accurately rated at 250HP Flywheel. If you think AWD will eat 80HP worth of that I have some great property in Afghanistan to sell you. All this driveline loss e-wisdom is bullshit. I love the dyno racer guys who will sit there and say that their 900WHP car is more like 1200FWHP. Driveline losses are a result of imperfections in the trnsmission and diffs. These cause the power to be trnsformed to heat via friction and lost. This is related to why autos need a good trans-cooler and why they tend to sap more power. But if a trans was to convert 300HP into heat, it would be molten slag by the 1/8th in about any street car application. It would strait explode. A good rule of thumb is that a 450FWHP car will lay down about 400WHP. Basicly, the loss is much more a fixd range with a small added percentage of loss as power increases, not a fixed percnt no matter what.
End tech speach.
OP. You will murder him. Unless he has some real mods such as TBE and a APR chip he wont even know which way you went. I love S4s and they are great cars, but they simply dont have the straitline grunt to fight LS1s in near stock form. Not at normal altatudes anyway.

The 2.73s dont help from low speed rolls though. Get some 3.42s or 3.73 ASAP IMHO.

6. "What would happen?" posts are not allowed. LS1Tech has one of
