Default Raced a "10 second" ricer ...

I originally posted this a week or so ago on LS1.com, and the guys over there got a kick out of it, so I'll share it with you guys also.

-------------------------------------------------------

I had just dropped my girlfriend off at her house after seeing Terminator 3 (great movie btw) last night around 1am.
Cruising down a small 2 lane highway with my windows open and the radio blasting I hear that familar ricepowered engine whine ...
As he slowly passes by I hear that cool turbo "psshhh" sound. He slows down and paces me (doing approximately 40mph or so). I see him trying to talk to me so I turn down my radio ... Its a completely riced out blue civic hatch, huge wing, some sort of design on the side, 25" chrome rims (exaggerated hehe), blue neons on the inside .....

him: "You really think you can handle me? I run 10 Second quarters"

me: "Your the one thats pacing me ... "

him: "well you think you can keep up or what?"

me: "This isn't the fast and the furious buddy, this is real life ... you better have a jet engine or somethin in there"

him: "lets go"

I give him a hand signal like "whenever your ready ..."

He nods and steps on it. I hear the "reeeeeaaarrrrr" sound and watch black smoke coming from his exaust as his turbo spools and he starts to walk away. I give him another second or so before I step on it ...

As soon as I do I instantly make up the 2 or 3 car lead that he has, then fly by him like Maverick doing a tower fly-by in TopGun. It was best said in treynors words "It looked like he slammed his car into reverse when I stepped on the gas"

After I slow down he pulls up next to me and is like "wow that things a beast, whats that badboy runnin, BRAH?"

Me: "probably low 12's in this form .... I have nitrous too, but its sitting at home."

Him: "no way, you gota nawwwss in that thing? oh SIT! that things gotta be in the 9's."

Me: "Nope, I told you, this isn't a movie, your car is probably running 14's at best .... BRAH "

I know its not much competition, but sometimes I get more satisfaction on beating a stupid ricer, then I do beating any 'real' cars.

LoL, I love those dudes that saw the Fast and Furious and take it for gospel. You know, the guys that buy civics put on aftermarket intake and exhaust and think they run 10s. Good story

Ya they think that they are hot **** cause of that movie. But all bull **** aside ive raced one out at the track it was a silver hatch back with a big cage and turbo. We lined up and raced the hole way down the track he was right next to me. Its sad to say but that was prob the best race ever i did win but not by much. That race i had a 1.70 60' 7.3 1/8 and 11.49 1/4. Needless to say the next weekend i went and got some more **** for my beater.

My company sponsors a 8 second Civic.....But this is a gutted, BIG turboed beast....Lost of props on the engineering of the race car....They have to make everything because it just not available.

I know it is not everyones taste....but I have to hand it to them, they are running a stock block and crank and making over 900 hp.

Dude come on be serious. A stock turbo civic runs mid to low 13's at a conservative 7 psi. A couple of friends and I went to the track last month to watch our friend break in his turbo civic. His first pass was a 14.1 at 104. Second run was a 13.6 at 106. And his last run was a 13.1 at 110 on street tires. This was done on 8 psi of boost. How do you expect a mid 15 sec car run slower than it does stock with a turbo. Dude get real! If it was stock then I would believe you.

http://www.dragturbokits.com/faq.html#c

A stock gsr or civic with a b16 will make around 275 to the wheels at 8 psi of boost. Or an additional 100hp. Some have even made 300 at 8 psi.

So get your facts straight dude and stop bashing.

There is not any bashing here.....I did not bash anyone. I am simply giving facts.....

2001 civic, this is not a B16 motor it is the ULEV D16. The car ran a best of 16.3 with 7 lbs of boost. I will get the owner to give you a call if you would like. Not bashing, just reporting what I saw.

Thanks

when i raced that one that ran high 11's i talked to him afterwards. I asked, if he didnt mind if i asked, how much hp he was making.he simply replied with 490 FRONT wheel horse power. Thats in a gutted civic hatch. he said with the right tune and the boost all the way up it should run low 10s high 9s

Me and the guys at LS1.com figured he was talking about his 1/8th mile time.

As far as the 10-11 second civic hatches, lets be real guys ... how many of them do you ever see driving around on the street. Theres a kid I cant stand running around by me with a huge turbo on a civic hatch. I was out one night without my nitrous and ran into him. The car was quick and from around 20-100 or so it was only about two or so cars back ... but that was without nitrous. With the nitrous on he wouldve been buslengths back.

Yes how many do you see. They have sold hundreds of thousands of civic's. So what is the probability of you actually seeing a fast civic? Thats just like me asking you, how often do you run into a twin turbo vette like Lingenfelter's.

I dont know if that was meant sarcastically, but your correct. The probability of actually seeing a fast civic out of the hundreds of thousands of them on the street is extremely low.

May he has the 10 seconds confused with his 0-60...?
