Default Mustang CS/GT ?

Last week on my way home, I ran across a beautiful blue Vert CS/GT Mustang. Older guy driving with a Teen in the passenger seat. I came up from behind him as I was just entering the highway to Vancouver. I could see the Dealer tag and the temp plate so I knew it was new (no license plate). Didn't expect the guy to get ornery with his kid in the car..20 seconds later I see him tailing me. I watch him back off and run up on me a few times, so I let him do it one more time and as he is climbing up on me again I just merely stamp on the accelerator....I run up to about 110 (in a posted 60) and get over a lane as my exit is nearing ( low volume of traffic or I would have let it go). He follows me down the offramp, and attempts to slingshot past me as it straightens out. I stamp the pedal again and halt his pull with his bumper at about my door/fender line. Stop light quickly puts our fun to a stop.. He pulls alongside me at the light and his kid rolls the window down. I compliment him on his car as it really is good looking, scoop, stripes etc. He grins at me and says "I didn't think you had that kinda power under the hood ?" I grin back and say "I was thinking the same about your car man." The light goes green after a couple more moments and He jumps all over it. I follow suit and go by him fairly good after I get into second gear ( I had to stab off the ASR )
What confused me is I could SWEAR I heard a supercharger sorta whine from his Stang... are the CS/GTs factory 'charged ?

The California Special GTs are just an appearance package. If it had a s/c, it's aftermarket. The CS/GTs run mid 13's at best.

The GT/CS is a Cali Special. Like evilways said, its just a body kit with some stickers. However, if it is a GT/SC, it is a Shelby GT with a supercharger. Very easy to confuse the two at a quick glance.

Ah. Guess that makes sense, I have heard that whine before, most notably as a Cobra showed me what his tail lights looked like in a hurry. But I was thinking that a new S/C'd Shelby would have performed better or even have left me. Dunno, thanks for the input tho. I will have to keep my eyes open and see if I can run across that car again.

Shelby GTs won't have the pony emblem in the center of their billet grill. The Cali Specials will have a standard black plastic grill with the pony emblem front and center......like any other GT. The Shelby GT's also have a much lower stance than a typical GT or Cali Special GT.

Supercharged optioned Shelby GT's are very very rare....only a handful of buyers opted for the blower. But it's not impossible for a standard Shelby GT to have an owner installed s/c also. The Cali Specials have a mid height stripe with GT/CS on it. The Shelby GT (with blower option) will have a rocker panel stripe with Shelby GT/SC on it.

Below........Cali Special on top.......Shelby GT on the bottom.

I haven't encountered at Shelby GT yet, just several GT500s. I didn't know the Shelby GTs had S/Cs as well. Must be really de-tuned as not to step on the GT500's toes, huh?

Oh, yea they do. lol The s/c option from the Shelby factory (I believe its either a Paxton or a Whipple) puts the Shelby GT's at 500bhp....but they still weigh in 200-250 lbs lighter than a GT500. Plus the FRPP suspension will put a factory GT500's to shame.

The GT500 is at 500bhp...why would they do that? They planning on eating a bunch of GT500s that won't sell because the Shelby GT is better for less jack?

I always thought that an SC was available as an option to be installed after purchase. But I do know it is a Paxton

I just checked out edmounds and it says the Shelby GT is only 325HP, 0-60 in 5 sec. It does say the suspension is upgraded though. Maybe the blower is optional....for quite a bit of money, I bet.

they havent had a problem getting rid of the gt500s at all. may be a problem down the line but not as of yet. also since the performance packages for the gt arent as well known or as advertised as the gt500. also its a 5.4 DOHC as opposed to a 4.6 3V, that is part of the cost difference.

heres a link of the packages available from the factory

Well, technically the GT500 is a Ford production model........produced at a Ford factory. The Shelby GT is just an aftermarket tuner model done at the Shelby plant in Vegas. Alot of ppl prefer having a proper production model, rather than a tuner car. Plus the GT500 starts with a 5.4, whereas the Shelby GT is still pushing the 4.6 motor. Although, some ppl do prefer having the SGT because it has actually seen the inside of the Shelby facility, whereas the GT500 really is just a Ford Mustang with Shelby's name tacked onto it.

The blower is an option. And as I said, only a handful (probably less than 15 total) went with the s/c. Put it this way, the Shelby GT with s/c option will run you more than what a GT500 would..........talking about MSRP wise.

I thought I read somewhere that the GT500s were assembled in the Mazda facility that Ford/Mazda share here in the states. Anyways, it doesn't matter. There is a blue-bazillion mustang varients out there, hard to keep up with the list.

you can get a shelby gt s/c but it is very rare, i would say no more that 5% of the shelby gts made were s/c.

He might have had an aftermarket supercharger.
