Default Friends 99 Cobra vs. 02 Camaro Z28

Me and my friend have always wanted to get a couple runs in but have either never had time or were in traffic. Finally we got to mess around.

First, I am going to say that he has a sick cobra. His mods are a midpipe, catback, intake, and dynotune. He put down 305whp and 305wtq on the dyno. Plus the car sounds sick as hell. He built his car primarily to road race though. Almost every suspension piece made for the cobra is on his car. His suspension is pretty much the American iron setup.

More about my car. Stock suspension, SLP lid, K&N filter, Magnaflow exhaust, and a cutout (open all the time lol). Haven't dynoed my car but I think it should put out about 320whp. I don't know?

We are on the freeway going to his house and I see that he begins to slow down. I am excited knowing that we are finally going to run. I down shift into 3rd and the same for him. We are going about 75mph. I honk three times and we are off. I shift into 4th and have a car on him. We shut down and I had about 1.5 cars on him. I knew it was going to be close. Chalk one down for my car.

Would this be the normal outcome of this race?

Sounds about right... you have a bit more power and a gearing advantage. Tell him to put some 4.10s or 4.30s on that bad boy and it'll be a whole new animal. Good kill

I have told him numerous times to put the 4.10s in there. That thing will definitely rip with that gearing. He only has 3.27s in it right now.

Thanks!

I have a friend with the same car with 4.10s with the same mods plus throttle body n dyno tune and he put down 318hp and 310 tq. I have a 99 z28 with only a catback and lid and i still get him from anything higher than a 40 roll so i think you def still take him. Good race though!

Thanks guys!

He has long tubes in the garage waiting to be put on. He is going to do 4.10s (don't know when) and get a new clutch soon too. Also, he wants to get an accufab throttle body. He will probably be dead even or slightly faster.

The spray gets here in a week for me though.

Yes from a dig with 4:10's he will beat you pretty bad but from a roll with the gears and longtubes it will be close!! The faster the roll you go from better for you.

We went from a pretty high roll this race.

I can't launch my car for ****. He will beat me on a dig race.
I'm gonna devote a day to learning to launch this thing.

Get some DR's and its easy as hell to launch your car you have great weight transfer and airplane gears (3:42's) just slip it hard at 3500.

I wouldn't suggest doing that. 10 bolt would be very likely to go that way

Usually when I race I just do a roll so I may not get the drag radials.

I want to go to Irwindale soon though. I don't want to get like 2.2 60s.

You probably will if you haven't been in that particular car before.

Good run, sounds like a normal outcome. 99/01 Cobras in the hands of capable drivers can surprise some unsuspecting(cocky) LS1 guys if they are not careful. Bolt ons and gears on those cars makes them flat out fly from a low second gear roll. Practice your launches and get in a dig race. Im curious of the outcome.

You're talking about a 4v without headers...sounds like that dyno should be checked.

I could see that. My friend put down 305 to the rear wheels. This guy also has a throttle body. With a better tune I would say that that is possible.
