Default Ls7-rx7 Vs. 03 Cobra

I am the Cobra owner (KB 2.2 & all supporting mods) & I was handed my first loss in this car since I've owned it (over a year). On Saturday me & my dad were coming back from eating at a resturaunt & I noticed a silver RX7 behind me, I told my dad what was up & drove by my house to the 4-lane hwy just down the road hoping the RX7 would follow. Well we get out to the highway & I get in 2nd gear & goose the throttle a little to see if he's game. We are going about 40mph & he starts to pass me & then jumps on it right beside me, I hit it & it took me all of 2nd gear to stop his pull, (he's up about a car & a half) THEN I MISS 3RD . It took me about 1.5 seconds to get in third but he was gone by then, stopped & talked to the guy at a redlight found out it was a cammed LS7-RX7. He seemed like he was in a hurry to get somewhere so I did'nt ask for a rematch, but I thought he might be on this forum. So if you are out there or you know this guy look me up, I think our cars will run pretty close when I am not missing gears .

You have an awsome car btw.

I know of very few Ls7 Rx7s much less cammed out Ls7 rx7s . If it was cammed out it was probably a cammed out Ls1, which is more likely and still a VERY fast car. Take 400+ whp (depending on what he had done to it) and add 4.10 gears and a 2700lb shell and you have a pretty mean little car. Was he having traction problems?

Unless the owner was lying it was an LS7... When I pulled up to the redlight beside him I heard the cam & asked "that thing got an LS1?" He said "Nope, LS7 crate motor that we worked over". After hearing that I was suprised that I was reeling him in before my right hand decided to find something other than third. He had no passenger & I had one so the weight difference was huge.

I am putting down somewhere north of 600rwhp. I have outrun one CAI/TUNE C6Z06.

a friend of mine has a 07 zo6 with a cam, intake and tune and made 565rwhp. if hes within 30 hp of that and only weighs 2800ish lbs he should have been walkin off.

I realize that, like I said before when I found out what he had I was suprised that I caught up with him at all. What I am trying to tell you is that he did'nt walk away till I missed a gear & I would just like to get back up with him to run them again. I have seen his car several times in the last few weeks but I don't daily drive my car so it's kinda hard to get up with him.

I am also asking around locally to try & find him. Even if he outruns me again I know it won't be a slaughter, I can still run right with him if not beat him.

Im from AL.. and never heard of an LS7 RX-7 around here. Figured it would be an LS1. Seeing as an LS7 is 12gs.

I think he just got the car together. I have seen him driving it alot these past few weeks, I think we have the same commute to/from work, were always going in opposite directions though.

Eventually I will meet up with him again, just thought he or someone he knew might be on this forum.

Neither is your Fbody. There is only a couple hundred lbs of curb weight difference stock, and I bet my car weighs less than yours does right now.
Nice run op! I haven't seen one of those things in person but I bet that would be a scary *** ride in that thing, probably a lot like my LS1 240sx.

Haven't weighed it with my current setup but many other Cobra owners have a raceweight of around 3400-3450 with similar mods.

Wow, an RX-7 with an LS7 would be absolutely sick. Kind of like a Solstice with an LS7.

It is definitely a very fast car & I told him so. Still does'nt change the fact that win lose or draw I would love to run him again. I do not have any sense of brand loyalty & I am not trying to start a Terminator is > xxx thread. Nor am I trying to bench-race power to weight ratio's, I am merely trying to locate the owner of this fine automobile. If & when I do I will try & get it on video for our viewing pleasure.

Good run OP but i really think if it was an ls7 with a cam and someone who actually knows how to drive then he should have beaten you. I know a kid with a rx7 that lives around here and he has an ls1 with a cam that put down 390hp n 390 tq and ive seen him beat a supra that put down like 550hp from a roll. Either way nice run

I think a cammed LS7 in a RX7 would walk away from a 03 Cobra...even a KB one.
