ok, guy at work has a 04 dodge charger rt and thinks its the fastest car in the world. He said he doesn't know if anything has been done to it. He said it might have a "chip" LOL. I tried explaining that chips arn't used anymore and they were replaced by programmers, but he just argued. He says it will go 0-60 in 3 to 3.5 seconds which I know is a bunch of BS. He said I can go for a ride with him and he will show me. I was ready to go after work but he was nowhere to be found. He also seems to think it will tear my SS a new one. My mods are in my sig.

My question is if anyone has raced one of these and what was the outcome? I just want to know if I am wrong telling him that his car isn't as fast as he thinks it is. Any help will be appreciated.

Stock times I have found are 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and 1/4 mile in 14.5

340BHP (or 350HP option - exhaust)......2.70 rear gears...mid to upper 14s. Low 14s with a tune or on a best drag day.

You have Nothing to worry about even if you were a stock A4 vert.

He's got the stereo-typical 'Hemi' attitude.


Oh and FYI - yu can still get a chip.

More or less. Low to mid 14 seconds seems to be the average around 99-101 mph down here. Drivers race with a decently driven manual New Edge.

SCT and Diablo still offers chips. JetChips offers them..but there's are junk from what I've been told.

that guy sounds like this girl i took out the other night, she tried to say her moms 300c hemi was faster then my car just because her speedometer reads a higher speed then mine needless to say i dropped it in gear on the highway doin 80 and not only did she change her mind but she also said my car scares the crap out of her

I raced my friends SRT8 supercharged magnum at the track and beat him bad after the track we hit the free way it was alot closer but still beat him by a fender at the time I had LT lid tune

you will win man. go from a dig or a 30mph roll. that be a sweet race! but make sure you get a video. dont you hate when people brag about their cars and how fast they are but there no where near fast... got a friend with a 95 5.0 mustang gt and thought his was soo fast n all. then i would just be like ok lets run then. but then he makes some stupid excuse that it will be a waist of gas n all this BS!?!? finally convinced him to run from 20mph and we did. and im sure you can guess who won. haha

An SRT8 S/C'd and you beat dig and roll with only ~350rwhp?.....Uh, uh. I take it he had NO traction at the track. NON-S/C'd srt8 magnums are low 13s.
Maybe he thought he was faster because of the motor swap?


(J/K, just an FYI 96s had 4.6L. 95s were the last year with 5.0s)
I was talking in General....not to mention the OP said the charger owner claimed to have a Chip. No one mentioned anything about LS's.

BTW - I KNOW for a fact they still make chips..........some mustang owners use them.....and yes on their New Edge's. FLip chips for Nitrous.

Have run a few at the track. Usually end up beating them buy about a full second each time. BTW i'm pretty much stock and average a 13.4-13.6 in the 1/4 mile.

I'll use my own embarrassing story to tell you how slow the Charger R/T's are...

When I first got my SS in July of 07 I had never been to a track to race....Street racing was my only experience to that point.

My Camaro had 4.10 gears and a Superchips tune as it's only mods...

My very first race at Spokane Raceway Park was a new Charger R/T...

We line up and I get staged before him so I look down to determine what RPM I'm going to launch at....While I'm doing that the Charger had quickly staged and the beams were already counting down, so I look up right as it is hitting green

So, he obviously trees the **** out of me...I take off and pull a very weak 2.3 60 foot due to not being prepared...

I then reel him back in and pass him as we hit the 1/8th mile...

I see the 1/8th mile cones and since it is my first time at the track my brain decides that means we're done so I put the clutch in, pull it out of gear, and coast the rest of the way...

I end up running a 13.6 at 95mph and still beating the Charger even though he treed the **** out of me and he stayed in it the whole way down the track.




So, unless the Charger R/T has a good amount of work done to it then there is nothing to worry about....I have a feeling a full bolt on w/ a tune would be a good match for a stock or lightly modded LS1
