Default Hawk Brake Pads?

Hello, I am new to the forum. Currently my 2001 Trans Am is in the paint shop. While its there the shop will remove the calipers to paint them. Since its off and Im due some new pads, I figured it would be the best time to do it. I would like something better than stock pads and I heard Hawk was the place to go. In my infinate wisdom, I pulled up thier website, thinking a quick order. They obviously wan you to use a retailer and not order from the site, which is a minor problem. The only thing is, they have like 15 different compounds and option of street or race for each. I have no clue what I should get.

I live on a tropical island, which is hot all the time with lots of rain and humidity. Its my daily driver and I am putting cross drilled and slotted rotors on it. I 'drive it like I stole it' ALL the time. I do not race it at the track, but I am sure I would tear a pad up more the way I drive. I would like the best pad to suit my needs. Anyone know which set would best suit my needs? Thanks in advance.

Ya I've heard nothing but good things about Hawk Pads, although factory GM pads are really all you'll need for a street car. They are actually a very good, quiet pad that doesn't wear too fast and makes virtually no dust. I would highly advise against D/S rotors especially if you drive it like you stole it. A good set of Brembo blanks would do you just fine. Stay away from OEM rotors though, very cheaply made.

hps is a good pad. have them on my t/a and had them on the SS. don't go any more agressive like the HP+, grip great but dust like crazy. and stay away from drilled/slotted. crap that cracks and doesn't do ****

don't get race pads and me personally, i would steer clear of cross-drilled/slotted rotors. they just look cool. a premium rotor from napa is all you will need.

Ok, I will go HPS. Thanks for the insight.

I beg to differ on the CD/S rotors. I put them on my V-6 Firebird about 4 years ago. No issues at all and the stopping power is a huge difference than the stocks were. I really noticed the difference when I bought the Trans Am and was able to compare them on a regular basis. I have heard the arguements about the cracking and warping, but I have had great luck with them.

well the holes and slots reduce the thermal capacity of the rotor. the pads and rotors are designed to turn momentum into heat. the whole "cooling effect" od the slots doesn't hold water. most of the time they fill up with brake dust. your tires stop the car. the weight difference between a 6 and an 8 plus other variables could be why you feel different. but its your money, do what you want!

Nice choice. I have them on my car with Brembo rotors and noticed considerably better stopping power. One of my buddies said now it feels more like his neighbor's ZO6
