Default Quick brake question (C5/LSx Conversion)

I'm working on going to the larger C5 rotor, but plan to use the LSx caliper.

Now the question is; Do I want to get the C5 abutment bracket and pad or do I use the f-body abutment bracket and pad?

I need to know this before I go buying expensive parts I don't need.

It depends on what c5 brake conversion bracket you use. If you use the LG Motorsports or 6LE style bracket, then you don't need anything other than maybe some longer brake lines but even those are for extra security.

If you use the original Bob Bishop brackets, trackbird, or UMI style brackets, then I think you'll need those parts.

Ok, my original plan was to get the kore3 bracket (similar to the umi) so would I use the C5 abutment and LS1 caliper?

I suppose if I go with 6LE's bracket I could use the f-body abutment I have. Are the C5 pads any larger than f-body pads?

theyre bigger. thats one of the reasons we swap to a FULL C5 set up. bigger rotors, bigger pads, bigger selection in race pads.

Talk to Tobin at kore3. He can set you up with the correct lengths.

6LE just did the conversion last weekend.....I believe he's still using the LS steel braided brake lines. He's loving the conversion, and it fills up his 17" Z06's real well.

On a side note.... I've heard the LT1 style steel braided brake lines are a couple of inches longer than LS1's.....any truth to this?

Ok, let's set the record straight... All this will revolve around my brackets because it is all I have experience with... THESE ALL WORK:

A) My brackets, C5 Rotors, STOCK lines (I am talking stock length stainless or stock lines), STOCK Calipers (therefore F-Body abutment brackets obviously), STOCK (size pads).

B) My brackets, C5 Rotors, STOCK lines (again stock length or totally stock), C5 Calipers WITH F-BODY abutment brackets, C5 pads...

I don't know about C5 abutment brackets.

Also, with my brackets you do NOT have to grind on your spindle (like the other brackets) and also, from what I have heard, if you want extra length you can order LT1 stainless steel lines and get a little extra length (can someone verify?).

I sell just the brackets and hardware for $150 shipped or the brackets with C5 rotors (blank or drilled and slotted) zinc plated for $350 shipped.

I can also get lines, C5 calipers, etc...

maybe your brackets somehow move the caliper less then the UMI setup i have....i dont know. but i tried stock length braided lines with my conversion, and at full lock, they are stretched to the point of possibly being dangerous. maybe for regular street use they might be alright, but for racing (which i do) its too much of a risk. from what ive heard, stock rubber lines may have just enough bend and stretch in them to run with the UMI setup.

Mine definitely weren't stretched like that. Gilbert and I turned it full lock to recheck the bracket bolts... I don't remember Dave having that problem either...

^^Regardless, peeps can just order the longer LT1 lines and not worry about it at all. AND save a little money (over the LS1 lines) from what I hear...

My supplier has a crap load in stock and compared, they are longer. I'll get a double check on that tonight for you as Mike just bought some and we should have them tonight...

Well I picked up a set of C5 pads and they just barely don't fit in the f-body abutment. Next I'm going to check the abutment fitment on f-body caliper.

I'm still trying to get confirmation that LT1 lines are longer... Doesn't seem to make sense since you have to get LS1 lines if you get LS1 spindles for LT1 cars...

C5 pads shouldnt fit because theyre bigger then LS1 pads. hence the reason of upgrading to the C5 brakes.

let me know about the lines. doesnt make sense to get C5 lines when you do a C5 conversion, and have to zip tie the line to the swaybar because its too long. i cant believe its this hard to get a definite answer on this. did i somehow get a short set of LS1 braided lines in the first place or what??
