Default Koni DA vs SA

Hi,

Can the perch mod be done with the DA koni shocks?
Are the DA's the same as SA's, but with more adjustments? (ie same ride quality etc..)
And finally, are the DA's 'on car' adjustable??

Thanks for the help,

Paul.

I think the SA's are the only ones with the lower perch.

Thanks for your reply.

I thought they came without, but wanted to check.
I'm reading a bit about the DA developing problems too, mabey I'd be better to wait and spend the extra on SA's? (I've found a good deal on a pair of front DA's).

I knew the SA were good enough for 99% of people, but I didn't realise the DA could be problems.

I didn't think they had any serious problems. SAs and DAs both have their pros and cons. The question you want to ask yourself is "Do I need to adjust compression?". If you don't then you should def go for single adjustables.

I read a couple of posts saying they had troubles with the DA's leaking around the compression adjustment.

I also see most say the DA are overkill, and SA are good enough for most people.

I can probably get the DA for about $200 LESS for the pair than the SA.
But the SA would be a local shop, good waranty etc.....

Basically to decode what people refer to as overkill = "Do I really need to adjust compression?"

"Do I really need to adjust compression?"
I think the answer in 'no' for 99% of people.

You're pretty much on the right path Paul.

I used to have Koni DA's and did use them in a Road Course environment. Unlike what my friend has on his, which are the SA's, my DA's Compression adjustment didn't actually improve anything for me since I didn't have anything with a significant difference in unsprung weight from the factory.

The one problem I did encounter with the DA's I had was that eventually the compression adjustment at the lower part of the shock failed twice and neither of the times were my fault. To let you know, this is NOT a problem with all Koni's, because a set of motorsport Koni's I used to have had the compression adjustment engineered differently than the standard Camaro ones.

Another problem I had with mine since they were NOS (new "old" stock) were the seals. Even though I got a great deal on them, their seals were somehow bad from sitting around too long. Nevertheless, Koni did warranty them, but it was surely a real PIA.

In summary, if I have to do everything over again, the one of several things I'd do is opt for Koni SA's.

Thanks for all your replys.

That was my main concern really, that and not being able to do the perch mod...........

They ended up selling for $380 for the front pair (!!), plus I'd of paid an extra $270 ish () for p+p.
I can buy new SA from a local retailer for $800 for the pair.

I think I made the right choce in not buying them, thanks again to LS1Tech
