I bought the parts that were posted on the very first post. Picked up the Calipers from the local junk yard for $125 a piece. Grabbed rotors off of gmpartsdirect for $66 a piece. Also bought the braided line kit for this application for $75. Alls I need is some brake pads and I am set. I pick the calipers up tomorrow. gm parts direct does sell them on there site. I wanted the actual calipers off of a CTS-V

You're pretty damn lucky finding a CTS-V in a junkyard lol.

My buddy works there. They are connected to whole network of bone yards. So he had no problem finding them.

I'm trying to piece together everything, but am confused as to which pad set I need.

Pad kit (89047725) or CTS-v Pad set (25940447) or can I skip buying either of these and just order a set of Hawk pads if I want less dust than the stock pads?

Also I am assuming I need the pin kit (89047711) if getting the calipers (89047726 and 89047727)?

Thanks

So I don't need to order either the pad kit or the CTS-V pad set if I order the hawk set?

Also does anyone know the PN for the brake hardware???

The stock pads don't suck. They are actually very good. They have excellent stopping power, very long life, and they are very quiet.

The downside is dust. They dust like crazy. If you're trying to avoid that, then aftermarket pads (Hawk Ceramic, ect.) are worth it.

Can the rears off a ctsv be used also? I have a chance to buy a complete ctsv brake kit.

Great write up (only read the first 3 pages, however.)

I have TWO sets of 17" wheels...what are my options for brake (rotor/caliper) upgrades without having to step-up to an 18'? Is it possible to use the same calipers, but a smaller diameter rotor?

My wheels are Zr1s, both pair (rough pair is for autocross)

I just did my first track day this past weekend and my brakes faded BAD towards the end of the day. I'm running ATE rotors, Hawk HP+ pads front, and stock components in the rear. I need some help before my next track day.

No, these caliperss stick too far out (diameter wise) to clear 17's.

You can upgrade to 13" rotors with LG Motorsports style brackets as well as air cooling ducts. If it still need more braking you can run 2 different pad compounds. Like a true race pad and a street pad and just swap them back and forth. Not just any pads are swappable, but some are.

I finally got these installed and first day out had ppl asking me about what kind of brakes they were. They stop way better than the baer eradispeed plus rotors I had previously.

And those that are interested about the CTS-V rears, I talked with Kore3 and they said they would be able to make a bracket to fit. But they said I would have to pay for hourly for the R&D and he estimated it to take "several days @ $50/hr"...so it will get expensive. Also if you have TCS, you would have to choose between that or the e-brake since they only have 3-channel available.

Great pics Peter. Nice rims too.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "Also if you have TCS, you would have to choose between that or the e-brake since they only have 3-channel available."

Who is "they"?

As for mounting rear CTS-V calipers, can't we slap on a big vette rotor, hold the caliper into place and see if a flat bracket can be made so it bolts to the same holes the stock caliper brackets bolt to? I don't see how the e-brake would be effected nor why having 3 or 4 channel ABS would make a difference.

All we would need Kore3 to do is take our template and laser cut it out of appropriatly thick steel. It's a simple enough idea in my mind and I see no reason Kore3 couldn't cut out a small batch (20-50) and add it to their catalog. People are constantly asking me if there is away to mount matching rear calipers so I know there is at least a small demand for them.

Really we don't have to have Kore3 do the cutting. Any fab shop with a computer controlled plasma or laser cutter can do it. There's an air suspension fab shop here in Houston that has cut brackets for me in the past. It's not super expensive or anything.

The "they" I was referring to was Kore3. They already have the brackets for the C6z06 rears, so I was asking the guy at Kore3 if it would work with the CTS-v rears. Those brackets wouldn't work, but he mentioned that they only have 2 or 3 channel available and I would have to choose between the e-brake or TCS if I had them make me brackets. I didn't pursue it further at this time bc I spent money on other mods.... Kore3 did tell me that "We've made custom brackets in the past to mount the CTS-V rear calipers to a Ford 9" rear housing, however we ran them on a 13" C4 HD front rotor in his application." So its a step down in size (14.4" stock CTS-v rears), but at least larger than the f-body stock rears.

If someone does come up with brackets for the rear that are more reasonably priced, I'm interested in buying a set. The rear wheels have too much empty space in them right now...Maybe more ppl should contact Kore3 so they know there is a demand for them?

How does the e-brake, abs or tcs have anything to do with the calipers?

Thats what Kore3 told me...the brackets they use have to take those into consideration...like I said, I didn't look too much into after I was told the price and I would have to be deleting one of those two. (even though I never use the TCS, I would still like the option in the future). 600+ just for the bracket was alittle to steep for me right now.

Alright, now my curiosity is peaked.

Does anyone have the measurements of the rear calipers?
We also need to compare the fluid displacement to make sure the stock master cylinder will work.
