Front struts install, is there a write up?
#4
Sorry to pop in, but I'm also installing new KYB G-2's. Using the "Autozone" compressor, I cannot get the spring to compress the last 1/4 inch to get the nut on the top on the new strut. I grabbed one up from each side to get the most compression.
Any suggestions?

just a FYI, theyre shocks, not struts. also called 'spring over shock', but not an actual strut.
thende: are you using an impact wrench to tighten the compressor? if you cant get it, take it to any shop around and they will do it, im sure for not very much money.

No, open end wrench. I do have an impact wrench, instructions stated not to use it, I get your point, get it really pulled down. Understood, on the shock comment.
Just a bit more and I would have it... Thanks.

BTW, for others, I did not disconnect the ball-joint, you can "Roll" the assembly around after disconnecting the top and bottom of the shock, it then simply slides out. Much easier for a DIY in the garage.

The stock springs are a pain in the *** to deal with. I have an old OTC "clamshell" type strut compressor and it won't pull them down without tearing up the dust boot/bump stop. Take the assembly and find a shop to do it. I found a muffler place that will replace the shocks for $10. Make sure the upper mount and lower bolt holes line up and they torque the shock nut or you will do it all over again. Just mark the spring etc.. Lowering springs are cake compared to the stockers.
