Lightbulb For all those people wondering about bump stops...

Last weekend before the weather turned to crap...I decided to install my 3rd gen bump stops and SLP spacers...When I got under the car I was beyond amazed how much bump stop I had left...

Comparison from old to "newish"

Installed....Soon have to put my PHB and LCAS in...

Good grief. How do you guys that live in the north keep your cars together? Looks as though they rust through in just a decade. Is that from all the salt?

Yeah, here in New York, Salt is the answer for EVERYTHING!!! =( The car has been an upstate car its whole life so most of that rust IS from salt...Also from the damp weather we get as well

The only Northern state that sees tons of rain and some snow that DOESN'T see salt on its roads is Washington. I live in Seattle and they lay down sand instead of salt if it snows cuz salt harms the Salmon's habitat, etc.

I guess there are some pro's to living in a granola city, haha.

Man what a difference on how your undercarriage looks compared to mine haha... Might I ask why you went with the foam replacement over the 3rd gen rubber ones?

After I ordered the gm ones, I found out their were alternatives like the urethane ones, live and learn.

One of mine looked exactly like that. No bump stop left. I was amazed.

Somehow I still had bump stops left after 12 years but they weren't hanging on by much. I replaced mine with a new set of yellow GM dense foam ones. Direct fit didn't need a spacer or anything - why are some of you using spacers?

Wow. My factory bump stops are still holding up strong, and I drive my car year round in just about all New England weather conditions short of the occasional ice storm. I've actually been very impressed with how well my undercarriage has held up after over 10 years of New England winters.

Rubbing with bigger wheels....I replaced with the GM Rubber ones instead of foam cause the foam rots A LOT faster then the solid rubber they used to use on 3rd gens

It is recommended that you remove the aluminum spacer to increase travel.

On mine and other SLP modified cars that they put 17" wheels on, they added those spacers.

For those that have found poly replacements I would appreciate the part number and where you found then from, I looked thru the energy website and catalog to no avail BUT I do remember seeing some company that made them but I forgot who...???

EDIT- I found them! https://securehost98.hrwebservices.n...&productId=296

Call me stupid if necessary but is the only point to the spacer for being able to run 17in rims? Im running 17's and yes they contact on the drivers side when the car is on a lift with stock bump stops, but other then that it is not an issue. As soon as I stop being lazy and grab the wizz wheel and trim the edges the problem will no longer be there.

SLP uses the bumpstop as part of their suspension set up. When the spring compresses, the car then uses the bump stop as a suspension piece. The reason you are wearing out bumpstops is because of the spacers. The spacer sucks up that much additional suspension travel. I run 18's on my Firehawk and switched to stock bumpstops. No problems and a better ride. I'm not on the bumpstops all the time.
