All our K-members feature intergrated motor mount stands. This means polyurethane mounts like Prothane or Energy Suspension will work great and are what we recommend if considering solid mounts. Solid mounts will not work with our set up.

Hope that helps,
Ryan

How many years ago was this failure?

Several years ago we had a very different design from the one we have used for the past 4-5 years.

The single cross tube(1 5/8" in diameter) is not a strength issue... if the tube had problems flexing the steering rack that bolt to both ends of the tube would also become damaged.

I have not heard of a cracked steering rack yet without an impact of a foreign being the culprit.

Honestly, it is a toss up. They are both good pieces.

For me the UMI ended up winning out because it was on sale at byunspeed.

BMR has better install instructions though online.

i chose the BMR k member.

and i did that for one simple reason, umi does not make a high clearance turbo version of their k member and bmr does, i just hope my downpipes do not melt the motor mounts

Does Umi offer a complete K-member, upper and lower arm Kit? and how much is this complete kit. Also I want to run a pinto rack. Is this K-member offered with UMI? I'm about to order a complete kit and I'm on the fence dont know which way to go.

Get the BMR. I have been dealing with them for years. I have always been pleased with their products. Like he said, That k member issue was along time ago. I haven't heard of anyone in a couple of years having any welds break.

Thanks for the interest in UMI and I will be glad to help. We do offer a few different kits with different upper A-Arms and with or with out shocks. I will paste the link below for you to take a look. Right now the K-members are supplied with factory rack mounts which would expect manual racks that feature kits to adapt them to the factory mounts. We are also working on just manual rack mounts. Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.

UMI Performance Front Suspension Kits

Thank you and I look forward to working with you,

I hate how these things happen, just found broken PA Performance K member.
Was pissed, there are still races that i wanted to go to this year. So came inside and found this discussion.

Thinking about going with UMI K member I like the integrated mtr mounts.

Ryan
Do you still make K members for LT1's and do you have any in stock? Need one soon to get ready for next year or still this year.

I have no comparisons of k members. However, as customer service is important with any transaction, I will give my story. Goes something like this: Company A and Company B (UMI) receive the same question at the same time, late in the evening when everyone is gone home for the day. Question was: will x part fit with y part. Bright and early the next day I have a response from Company B (UMI) "Yes it will fit, we sell it for $x.xx, and I can send you a paypal invoice for it and ship it today." Now, about 2 days passes and i finally hear back from Company A, "It should fit"

Well ****.....guess you made my mind up for me. I won't directly say who Company A was but I bet you could figure it out. True story.

thats lame, you buy stuff like that.
A few weeks ago, I saw BMR at the LSX shoout at there huge display with the 2010 camaro on the side, that everyone took pics of. I think they were racing that car too. So I went over to asked about my bmr TA relocation, Xmember. If I had it in the right hole for what the car was doing, and what moving it dose. And they told me about some new stuff there working on for 4th gens. The later I went over to the SAM car running 8's and it had off the shelf BMR stuff, won their class again. The ohio boys had some stuff come up from them racing the cars all year all over the place. They have the top fastest cars in there class running 7's for a years now. Theres more then just copying other stuff out there and selling it for $10 less. I buy performance parts for racing and how they perform. true story

I was in the market for a k-member and was considering the PA Racing one since its one of the lightest one's out there. After hearing about 4 different stories about welds cracking I just ended up buying a UMI k member from Byunspeed since the car sees a lot of street miles. 15% off and free shipping, can't beat that deal.

CrMo is a pretty good sign that somebody designed it right
up to the edge of failure. To some assumed use and risk
tolerance. Swell, if it's a trailered toy. On the street, go for
something that will bend instead of break.

My advice to you is go for stout over the last 2-5 pounds.
Any of them will save you weight. Stout will save you
a long walk or worse.
