I'm looking for a K member and some control arms. I've also heard that the LS1 brake system is significantly lighter.
Aluminum calipers, lighter spindles? Daily driver, occasional track.
Gimme some ideas fellas. Thanx

Hello,

First, welcome to LS1tech and it looks like you have a nice project there. We will be happy to help with it.

UMI offers a nice K-member and A-Arm kit, light weight, race and street friendly. I posted a few links and I will be glad to answer any questions.

+1 for the UMI K-member. Very awesome product. If/when my LS1 ever dies, and I do an engine swap, I will be getting one of these.

My front end is UMI and I enjoy it. Their K is one of the better with the double front bar. Arms are arms though so look for the best price (which often tends to be UMI anyways).

Then check into Koni shocks and strano springs if you want that lowered look.

A c5 brake conversion will do for the brakes.

UMI makes great stuff. I'm picking up a set of upper/lower control arms when I start the rest of my suspension work, and by the time I need a k-member, hopefully they'll have one with solid motor mount options.

BMR and Spohn also make good stuff, if you want to look at other options.

1. Will the C5 brakes fit in 17" rims
2. What parts are needed
3. Where to get the parts

Thanx. I'm sure the whole system is lighter as well since my calipers are steel and the C5's are aluminum.

Bummer. I guess I'll just have to go with a basic LS1 conversion.

This package drops 34 lbs. off the nose:

....and if you want to go crazy, this package drops 84 lbs. off the nose!!

Both kits are very streetable however daily driving, heavy cornering or road course will kill the Strange brakes. If you are building a street/strip car that sees limited street duty they are fine. Would probably suggest the Level 1 kit with OE LS1 brakes. Go HERE to see all of our packages.

What would this cost without brakes? Just the K-member, arms, shocks?

That's why I asked. Just waiting for a quote. Looks like a great setup for daily driver/weekend warrior.

Good, its between UMI and BMR for me right now, but I can't decide. UMI's stage 5 is interesting. The stage 6 as well, but I need the "suspension for dummies" book because I do not know crap about suspension and wouldn't know what to do with adjustable upper a-arms!

All I am looking for is a street/strip combo. Need rear suspension as well as far as shocks/spring go...

Don't put to much into the need for "adjustable" on a lot of parts. Most of us weekend racers aren't likely to ever actually need to make the minute adjustments that they allow for, nor are you likely to find a shop that will actually make the adjustments as opposed to using a BFH to merely pound your alignment in place. So the added cost isn't really worth it.

A set of fixed upper and lower arms is really all you need and it just becomes a decision on Poly, roto, or a combination of joints at that point.

As for shocks, Koni yellows (non-adjustable, SA, or DA) on stock is fine or will work with a wide variety of springs. They are just a bit costly.

Springs are gonna depend on what you plan on doing. 275 lbs for drag racing, 300 for a comfortable street, or 325 for a stiff ride.

Hello, Thanks for considering our product. You won't need the adjustable upper A-Arms, plus the non-adjustable would be slightly lighter. As for the lowers, they come preset to factory length so you can install them just as they are and use the K-member slots for alignment. The rod ends in the lower A-Arms allow the suspension to travel better and prevent front end bind.

If you need any help with these kits please ask. Thanks!

If I go with upper and lower non adjustable control arms do I have to get an alignment?

Yes, regardless of adjustable or non-adjustable the car is going to need aligned. Alignment is inexpensive if they don't have to do much. Even if you would reinstall the factory K-member and factory A-arms you would still need a front end alignment.

Hope that helps!
Ryan
