Default How to remove strut nut for spring install

Does anyone have any tips or recommendations? I have a box wrench on the nut, and a vice grip on the square top of the shaft and I keep rounding of both of them.

I've compressed the spring fully to where the shock spins freely in the middle of the spring.

I had the same issue. I tried nut buster and everything. I eventually said **** it. If you have access to any air tools I say that. Or just take it to a shop and pay it to get done. Haha

i just filled the entire strut mount cup where the stud and nut for the shock is at up with penetrating oil and let it sit standing up for a day. then the next day came off with ease with just a rachet. but then again mine were in pretty good shape not a whole tone of rust/dirt like a lot of you have talked about. if that doesnt work just cut it if your replacing the shocks anyways....

That's what I did (and going to do again) on my old/new car. It was only about $20 at NAPA. I dropped it off before work, picked it up on the way home so it saved me a lot of time.

If you have a vice mounted to a workbench, lock up the shaft of the shock as tight as you can in the vise, then try to loosen the nut with a few shots with a chisel.

Thanks guys for the help. I took it to a tire shop today and they used their compressor and wacked the nut with an impact. Took them 10 minutes!
