Talking Jeep Bump Stop Mod (the sh*t simple approach)

This is how I changed out the bump stops on our 2002 B4C Camaro (aka. Z28)

How to:
1) Buy your favourite Jeep universal bump stops (I used ES 9.9137G);
2) Remove your busted factory bump stops and throw the bolts away if you have a Z28 (more on this later);
3) Cut the foam off the factory bump stops exposing the steel bracket (I used a utility knife);
4) Find something to make 1/2" thick spacers (I cut up old bushing sleeves; washers will work too);
5) Find some longer bolts, surprisingly you'll find these will need to be at least 1/2" longer than stock (mine came out of a 3rd Gen Camaro that had I parted out); and
6) Reinstall.

I did the mod this way because we actually use our car for daily driving duty and having loaded this car with more crap than I care to think of it is important to control the load over long trips. Think practical application, not race car.

Interesting idea, cutting off the factory foam and utilizing the factory GM bracket in conjunction with the energy suspension unit. When I swapped out my bumpstops I swapped the entire unit and didn't use the factory metal bracket. Ended up having to cut the Energy Suspension unit to fit (there is a lip on the car itself that doesn't let the bump stop sit properly onto the chassis).

Strano sells these on his site too. I'll be ordering some in the next week. Great price too.

Or, buy a set of new OEM bump stops. That's what I did.

I find it amazing (or is that amusing?) that since the time we both joined you have accrued about 4140 more posts than I; yet I am certain they were all of the same quality as the one quoted above. Keep living in the glory of that post count, because at the end of the day that is what matters.

Hey! He had a V6 and then replaced that with another sixxer! I think he deserves a little respect... Maybe not...

Did this today.Didnt feel like driving 10 miles to the Home depot for spacers & longer bolts.What I did was use a Air cutter and cut a small square block out of rubber on the bump stop that gets in way of the lip and then used the air cutter as a grinder to shave down on bump stop bracket until it fit.No spacers or longer bolts and didnt have to trim off lip under the car.Nice and tight.Just a option for anyone thinking of doing this.Also,Summit sells these online for $22.90 shipped on Ebay-Energy Suspension Bump Stop 9-9137G

Funny to see this thread back up...

Anyway we just drove back from the hardware store with 80kgs (176lbs) of water softner pellets and two big bags of pet food with a full tank of gas and the car performed very well for being as low as it is. I am certain it was on or near the bump stops at this point.

Looks like the car has aftermarket springs on it. Is it harsh when the car gets on the stops?

No worse than any other car I've ever bottomed out.

I started putting my 315's on tonight and realized both of my bumpstops are about to fall off. So I thought this was a great idea and I went to Vatozone to get some for a jeep and believe it or not they had never heard of a bumpstop and neither had their computer! So we tried a few different things I thought about trying to just get factory replacements, no such luck. Finally I gave him the part number and he barely found it. Said it must be really rare and he would have to special order it.

So I headed to O'reileys and got the same story. The kid had never heard of a bumpstop!! And neither had their computer. So he called their "helpdesk" ( I never knew parts stores had heldesks) and got 2 part #'s. Neither of which could be purchased through O'reileys?

So I just went to summit when I got home and ordered the jeep ones. I have no idea why it was so difficult but nevertheless I appreciate the idea in the thread OP. I just must have went to the parts stores on ruhtard day!!

I installed these. I chunked the aluminum plates and cut the lip. They fit perfect after that. I have always wondered if drilling some holes in the poly would soften impact but still maintain its integrity (lifespan).

I by no means want to **** in anyones cheerios, but the 3rd gen style bumpstops bolt right in and are rubber. Not the $hitty foam parts that the 4th gens came with. Also you can order them for $5-10 or get some from a junkyard. Just FYI folks.

Lighten up a bit.

Does the number of cylinders a vehicle has determine how much of a man a person is? The truck wasn't the intended replacement for the Camaro anyway, I still want to get a Z28.
