Default Need help with a broken K-member bolt

So as im finishing up my BMP K-member install, I went over the 6 K-member bolts one last time just to be sure they were all snug. I ended up breaking the middle passenger side bolt right in half. FML!... So now im trying to figure out how to go about pulling the metal sliding plate (not sure what its called) that the bolt threads into, out of the car. Does anyone know what this plate is and how it comes out?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance

-Rob

can you reach the bolt if you pull the kmember down?
that's probably going to be your best bet

No, its up in the body of the car, it looks like that metal plate that the bolt threads up into may come out the side though. I just dont know how to go about getting it out.

Im thinking of just taking a punch and hammer to it, and breaking the damn thing apart. Then just using a standard nut and bolt with a washer and lock.

The plate-nuts slide in and out as long as there's no obstruction (like broken nuts). I would think you need to drill out the broken bolt....

Definately drill it out, odds are you over torqued and now that the head is gone the tension is removed it will probably drill out easy.

Depending on how tight it is, I would try an ez out and heat it up with a gas torch. Good luck

You make a good point there. I didnt even think of it like that. I was avoiding drilling it out for fear it be a pain in the @$$ due to all the tension and the bit getting broken off in the bolt. It should be fairly easy though. thanks for your reply

Drill it out and use an EZ out, also a little heat from a torch may help get her out. Honestly the bolt is so big that it shouldn't be that much of a pain to do.

Bump for this topic. Same thing happened to me, except I broke the middle driver side bolt. I'm going to just use an easy-out screw extractor. It doesn't look difficult to remove. Where can I find a replacement bolt?

You can buy a graded bolt from Home Depot or Lowes. Make sure its a 10.9 or whatever the highest grade is they sell. Take a matching bolt from the other side so you get the right one.

IF IF IF the bolt being discussed is the one I'm thinking about, GM 10234622 M12x1.75x92 reduced shank cone point, no grade listed.
