Question Can't identify horn-like noise in gradual left turn at highway speeds

I'm having trouble identifying the root cause of a noise when turning left, noticeable at highway speeds (45 Mph & up usually) more in a gradual wide bend rather than a sharp turn. Any ideas? It sounds like a dull horn-like vibration sound. A GM shop replaced the driver-side front wheel bearing -- made no difference.

Anyone have any ideas?

On an A4 with an aftermarket converter I'd be looking at TCC slip (especially
if it responds to gas pedal). My TCI hooted kind of like this on cloverleafs as
the clutch went to crap. Can't make out what some of those mods mean,
whether these are A4 cars or not.

You might look for tire to wheelwell interference as the body rolls. Or other
undercarriage scrape-age. Driveshaft to exhaust, seen that once (but on
braking, not sweepers). Look for bright marks on anything that rotates
exposed.

Im having the almost identical problem. Only difference is the noise, sounds like a whir over and over.. like the sound is rotating with the wheel. I know my Passenger side Tie-Rod end is shot. Once I replace I hope it goes away. Now that i'm thinking about it.. it just could be the driveshaft hitting my exhaust! Could it be THAT simple? it does whir over & over but the whirring is slower then the wheels are turning @ highway speeds? I'll keep you posted. Any suggestions about what this could be would be greatly appreciated

Passenger-side wheel bearing? (I always replace these in pairs.)

You should be able to test the bearings. Jack up the car and look for play in the wheel. You can also take the wheel and brakes off and feel for roughness in the bearing.

I have a hunch this is steering related -- there was a GM technote where a GM shop replaced a power steering hose with one longer due to some funky thunking on a hard turn out of the driveway. I don't know if the issues are related.

This is an automatic (both are actually), and this issue is only noticed on the highway to the left. I'm not sure if it responds to the gas pedal -- will have to experiment now that you mention it.

If you have chromed wheels and the chrome is peeling, that could make the whirring sound, look at the insides of your wheels when they're off the car.

Not that I can hear the sound or anything, but is it possible your PS fluid is low? I had a sound that I would describe similarly to what you are saying, and I checked my PS fluid and put some in and now it's quiet as can be.

^ PS fluid was just a tad below the cold fill line -- added a little, not sure that will make much of a difference. We'll see. Maybe next step is just to replace all the PS fluid. Any fluid varieties recommended over others?

Update: no difference from the PS fluid addition, but I think the sound is like something slightly grinding & feel it lightly in the steering wheel. Gotta check that passenger side wheel bearing. Could a bad wheel bearing make sound/grind when turning the car in only one direction?
