Default Fender hitting rear tires?

Hello all.

I'm having an issue and hope you can point me in the right direction to fix it. I have replica C6 wheels -- 18 x 9.5 on the front and 18 x 10.5 on the rear (wrapped in 315/35/18 Nitto 555R drag radials). For some reason, my right rear tire (passenger side) keeps getting cut up by the fender. This seems isolated to the right side -- the driver side tire is good to go.

The car is stock ride height and I rarely have a passenger in the car (although I have noticed that it happens more frequently when I have an extra person or two in the car). Any thoughts on how I can safely fix this issue? Getting ready to head out to Road Atlanta in June for a driving event and the last thing I need to do is cut up another tire at the track.

Do you have an adjustable panhard bar? The 315's really show how most of the rearends are off center. With the adjustable bar you can re-center the rear. Might also have to roll the lips. The Camaro's seem to be hit and miss with the 315's and rubbing, even at stock ride height. What is the offset on the rear wheels?

Thanks for your post.

As for the adjustible panhard bar -- I hadn't even considered that and it might explain why one side is getting cut up and the other isn't!

As for the rear wheels, they are a 58mm offset and I had to use a 1.25" hub-centric spacer to get them in there without banging the crap out of the inside of the wells with a hammer (just didn't like that option).

As for rolling the lips, how involved is that process?

You also might need some stiffer shocks in the rear so the car doesn't squat so hard pushing the fenders into the tires.

Not too difficult. If you can't get the fenders rolled at a body shop try cutting back on the spacer. That should put you just this side of the LCA and inside the fender.

Hello neighbor. Maybe I am missing something ... does Nitto make a 555R in a 315/35/18 or is it a 305/35/18? A 305/35/18 is a bit taller and wider than a 315/35/17 in a 555R. Have you measured to check the centering of the rear? An adjustable panhard bar should be the trick. I have a set of 315/35/17's ready to mount once my S60 is in and I don't anticipate a problem ... fingers are still crossed though.

By the way, nice SS ... I love the NBM's.

When I installed my 315 nittos I noticed a little rubbing when I cornered hard. I installed new stiffer shocks and rolled the fenders and it took care of the problem.

Thanks for your help. Just checked the tires and OOPS -- they are the 305/35/18 555Rs. You're correct, Nitto doesn't make that tire in a 315/35/18.

I haven't measured to check the centering of the rear (unfortunately I'm completely ignorant to all of the little things I would need to check) however based on yours and the others' recommendations to get an adjustible PHB -- I'll go ahead and get that taken care of first. I'm also planning to roll the fenders to give me a little more wiggle room.

As for stiffer shocks in the rear -- I'm considering a set of the Bilstein HD's (all around) because they would enhance handling for a couple road course events. Would those be stiffer or softer than the stock rear shocks? I guess going stiffer would help a bit.

Thanks again!

You could definitely go with Bilsteins, but they're not going to do much at Roadcourse speeds.
