Default How do you lowered boys do it?

For the entire month and a half that I've had my Z28 I've been planning on lowering it, for better cornering, and to get rid of my 4x4 stance. But then it occured to me the issues with ground clearance over speed bumps, with not hitting the bumper, or even Long tube headers which I am planning on buying. My main thing is when leaving my driveway. When the tire hits the lowest point, the bumper is at the highest point and there is 1mm or 2 of space. So can I just not lower my car? Or do I have to give up keeping her in the garage? Has anyone modded there driveway? I will post pics of what I mean about my driveway tomorrow.

I drive really slow over speed bumps, and aim for the lowest point on them (most speed bumps are worn down a bit from people driving over them every day). My driveway is even with the street, so I have no problems there.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not too worried about speed bumps, as I rarely see them, but my driveway is going to be an issue.

I have my car lowered 2 inches. I back out of the garage on a hard angle and I'm fine everytime.

Mine is lowered around 2", and I just avoid speed bumps when possible or like has been said aim for the worn parts. As for the driveway issue I have that as well. Lots of angles are used to get out of mine.

I'm lowered (25-1/2) and my plastic airdam grinds on my driveway or other approaches. I also have scratches on the lower bottom of the front bumper cover. No headers or offroad y-pipes, but I still scrape (y-pipe) a little bit on some of the speedbumps around town.

We live in a neighborhodd where they have the little dips on the edge of each side of the road, for drainage, and the driveways have about a 4 inch raise .. So from the end of the flat part of the driveway, sloping down and then back up to meet the surface of the road, i'd have to say its about 14 inches or so wide. SO, my roommate went and bought a piece of long plywood, maybe a 8x10 or something.. And about 15 feet long.. Laid it in the crevice and bam, no more issues. Right now its just laying in there and doesnt move when driving over it, but eventually i'd like to take some concrete bolts and bolt it down. This is just an idea..

Scrape everwyehre. Y pipes have become a maintenance item for me. Mine is all flat on the bottom. My air dam is torn and like half the original length. lol. It just comes with the territory, you have to pay to play. It's inevitable your gonna scrape.

Idk how the super low guys do it. I want to enjoy my car while I drive it, not stress out about every little change in the road level. This is one reason I havent gotten around to lowering my car yet

You get use to it. I dreaded having to be careful, but it really hasn't been a big deal.

I have Strano springs and stock manifolds + Y, and scrape over speed bumps and while going into parking garages. I just let 'er scrape! Oh well.

Go around the edge of the speedbumps or take them at an angle. Take all slopes at an angle.

I had to go back to stock springs from my Stranos after we bought our house as with the angle going into the garage the car would not go in. I have LTs and have had the Y modified to tuck to the car but I still couldn't make it in the garage. If you have known places (ie your house) that will cause it to scrape I think your best bet is to not lower the car. Get some good quality shocks, sway bars, and a good solid panhard and the car will handle well and still have good ground clearance.

A lot of you must have shity longtubes or something... I have LG springs which are 2 inch+ drop with ARH's and have never scraped ever.

The only thing that would suck is if there is debris or an animal in the road. The radiator air damn is pretty low so if you can't avoid whatever is in the road you are pretty much screwed.

You can trim the lower air dam just alittle. When I drop mine I'm going to trim about an inch off the bottom of mine. I know the corvettes have frame savers that is pretty much 2 pieces of metal that will scrape before the bumper does. I might see of I can fab some up for my car
