Question Stb

Can someone please tell me what if any benefit there would be to me by installing a Strut Tower Brace onto my DD. I do not race at all, well maybe a little lol. Will it help in the comfort department or is it just for looks?

Not worth it. It may make it look better but makes working on the engine a pain unless you remove it. It won't help at all unless your doing a good bit of road racing or auto cross. It will also make your ride a little rougher. Unless you can get one for next to nothing, that's money better spent elsewhere.

It eliminated some cowl shake on cornering, on my 'vert.
Look at it more as a vibration snubber than anything.
The Hotchkiss is easily removable and generally out of
the way.

I had one on my old car and it did seem to stiffen up the car "a little" but I hated working on the motor with it on so I wont be adding another one lol I would do SFC's to stiffen the body up.

Lol, how long did it take you to copy/paste all of these links?

I have a STB and I think it looks really cool, and I felt that the chassis seemed a bit stiffer after I installed it. Maybe it's just in my head?

About the same amount of time as it took to type stb in the search bar. You can probably go all the way back to November 2001 and find this topic.

Perhaps it's because the testing would require relatively sophisticated measuring and data-logging tools that only suspension companies can afford to use for this purpose... but they enjoy selling strut tower bars because they're easy to make and profit is a good business plan? I'd bet someone has done the analysis and the difference was not statistically verifiable, like a 1.5% improvement in g force capability + or - 1.7%...

Look through those links above for an example of a suspension company providing physics calculations justifying the addition of a STB.

Now look through those links above for examples of people saying the snake oil removed creaks and squeaks.

My B4C came with a Hotchkis bar, so I left it on.

My 02 did not come with one, but I added one for that peace of mind with a tubular K-member. Then I switched to a FAST 102, the bar didn't fit, and I left it off.

Basically it's a chassis stiffening mod.. if it even does much in that department.

When you compare it to other modification options, it does pretty much nothing for handling.

If it is making your ride rougher then it must be doing something to stiffen the car.
