Default spohn torque arm broke

Hi just wanted to know if anyone has had a torque arm break in two.
I was @ the track and with drag radials 3500 launch popped my clutch and heard a big bang. I am new to the 4th gen world and just wondering if this is a common thing.

We've seen torque arms fail from bolts coming loose and breaking the mounting bracket on the rearend. Aside from that, we haven't experienced failures along this line. I would predict something else was at fault for the failure as Spohn's torque arms design is over-engineered by comparison to the factory TA, so having one snap in two would be difficult. However, I have seen crazier things happen. haha

This is the picture of my torque arm. You can see it snapped the top tube in two. I check all bolts on my suspension all the time so it wasn't because something was loose and my pinion angle was set per instructions.

Iceman02 is running a Spohn TA in his WS6. After seeing this we might have to keep an eye on it every now. Thank you for posting. Looks like something made the tube get fatigued and crack

My UMI torque arm is working great. that sucks to see. I know of another person using a spohn torque arm. I will have to give him a heads up.

Yes I thought that I had taken care of that weak spot. I had a guy @ the track tell me he broke one also.

I would call Steve Spohn and tell him you broke their torque arm. Im sure he would stand behind his product and maybe even give you a good discount on their pro series torque arm. Theres no way you would break that one. Otherwise all of the spohn products i have seen are very good quality. I am surprised you broke that one.

Spohn basicly laughed about this Tq arm breaking and won't deal on a upgraded arm. Not a good way to do business in the age of information.

This is exactly why I buy UMI products. Anytime I have ever had a problem I call Ryan up and he is quick to respond and help me. He sent me a brand new upper a arm when I bent one. Great stand up company. Heard alot of great things about BMR as well. Been seeing alot of bad things about Spohn TQ arms lately.

Yes I have been reading on here about UMI and BMR and don't see anybody talking about their parts breaking. My brand new T56 magnum trans and driveshaft all got damaged when this broke. This has been a expensive lesson for me that I hope others learn from and buy another brand.

From what I've been hearing from a few posts here and there, you probably were dealing with some schmuck who they have answering the phone. Sounds like you want to try to get in touch with their main guy.. although I'm wondering why he's so hard to get a hold of?

Considering how far apart those tubes are at the fracture point, I best estimate is:

1.) that arm was in extreme tension, especially when it broke
2.) the weld was weak
3.) there may not have been enough length in that upper bar to begin with

that sucks they won't stand behind their product. UMI or BMR it looks like for you.

can you post some more pictures?? that angle is kind of hard to really look at the WHOLE picture... maybe a shot with it removed too! from what i can see it doesnt look like it has anything to do with a weld but again not a good pic..

i have a Spohn full length CM Tq arm and it has survived YEARS of abuse! especially 5500RPM dumps on slicks at the track...this problem does concern me a bit though i have A LOT invested into my car to have a failure like this happen.

Mine broke the exact same way, upper bar in front of the rear tubes welded point just after the last upright.
