That is only a matter of opinion

I'd only have 400 in my brembo set up and have no issues.

That's true. It's an opinion that says I'd rather have a two piece rotor that provides less unsprung weight and proper offset and hub bore/taper. If I find another company that will do it cheaper, it'd be better. Right now the argument against it is the price.

Here is the correct p/n: http://www.racingbrake.com/CTwo-piec...-07-p/2114.htm

BTW - they would be open to a group purchase if people were interested? Should I create another thread for that?

Here is what I'm pretty set on:

CTS-V Brembo 4-Piston Calipers
Hawk HP Plus Front and Rear Brake Pads (or maybe the OE pads and stoptech rear? hmm?)
Racing Brake Slotted 2-Piece CTS-V Rotor/Z06 Hub Front Rotors and 1-Piece F-Body Rear Rotors
Flynbye CTS-V/TCS F-Body Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit
ATE Type 200 Brake Fluid
Reproduction Z06 Spyder 18x9.5+40 F and 19x12+59 R Black Wheels
Nitto NT05 275/35-18 F and 335/30-19 R Tires

Should bolt right together. The biggest pain will be the 19x12s. Wish that was available as a 19x11 with a 45mm offset...
That's awesome, I was always tempted on swapping the heavy ss rotors to something lighter. I will wait to see what comes from this first though.

LG does this on the Z06/GS - I don't know the rotor company though. Might be StopTech. Those are like $1500 for the set. But the point was the calipers are plenty - but the rotors are heavy.

With a 2-piece, yeah, it costs more than NAPA blanks or eBay rotors, but you just have to replace the outer shell of the rotor when there's a problem. That's much less expensive - but it's a much better rotor...

How much is a replacement outer shell?

$530.

So, unless they held up 4 times longer than a NAPA rotor, might be a miss. But I think they'd definitely hold up twice as long.

Yea, personally, it's too much money invested in rotors. I say personally because this modification would mostly be appearance rather than performance. Even then, I don't think many people would be opting for this upgrade because their current setup (F-body or C5) has limited them.

Off-topic: I would really be interested in seeing your build - it looks very promising. I am going with a similar cam, EPS 230/234 111+3 with AI 226CC 243's. I would be interested in seeing what numbers you put down!

Me too. I may start pulling everything apart this weekend. I gotta see how my schedule looks.

And yeah, the Racing Brake rotors are not merely for looks. They are way overkill in all honesty.

I don't know - just having a hard time swallowing that price for those rotors. Hard to talk myself into it.

ACDelco 177-1126 Z06 14" Cross-Drilled Rotors $138.30
ACDelco 172-2287 Brembo CTS-V Caliper Assembly $117.22
ACDelco 172-2288 Brembo CTS-V Caliper Assembly $126.38
ACDelco 171-0876 Front Brake Disc Pad Kit $95.77
ACDelco 18K1971X Front Brake Caliper Kit $15.72
Kore3 CTS-V Brembo Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit $65.00

$558. Hard to beat. Using OE Rotors and Pads should last on the street quite a while.

Hope everything goes well in your build. If you're sticking to the street and not a full track prepped race, stock blanks will be good enough. I have raybestos rotors.

You had to grind that beast of a caliper down to fit in the zr1 wheels?

Heck yeah. It's not bad, it didn't affect anything at all.

So, I think I've found the wheels I want that will clear this setup:

Weld RT-S Polished High Pad +41mm 18x10 Front Wheels (PN: 71HP8100A71A)

If I go with the stock brake pads for the caliper (which to me, seem to provide awesome initial bite and modulation along with low noise, but horrific dust and some fade), what would be a good pad to match with it on the rear? I know HPS pads provide less initial bite than the OE Brembo pads, so would something like EBC Redstuff be good? Or should I do something like Yellowstuff front and rear?

Sorry to resurrect the thread but I am planning on going with the CTS V brake swap on my T/A and the C6 Z06 wheels like used in the GMHTP STI Killer project (but in black). I am now trying to decide on the pads and was looking at Porterfield R4S, EBC blue or yellow stuff, Hawk HP+. It will be a daily driver with occasional HPDE/Auto-X use. Anyone that has done it have any thoughts?

The stock OE pads would be the most cost-effective choice. They are above the HPS and maybe even above HP+ in power, but are much smoother. They dust like crazy. I think they are Ferodo DS2500? If not, buy the Ferodo. Those are the best pads on the planet or a street/autoX car. But they don't make pads for the standard F-Body caliper but do for the Brembos. My second choice is the Carbotech AX6. It has great modulation and control and much better thermal properties than HP+.

The R4S is essentially the HPS in brake torque. And much more expensive, though it does have a better heat range.

EBC Yellow Stuff is equivalent to HP+ in output, but isn't really all that great.

HP+ is an on/off switch and doesn't really haul you down much better than HPS.

DS2500>AX6>Stock OE (if not DS2500)>HPS>R4S

I would toss the HP+ and Yellow Stuff idea away. The other pads stop as well (well AX6 and DS2500 moreso and HPS and R4S slightly less), don't dust as bad, and don't squeal.

Thank you for the guidance JakeFusion. Over the past year I keep coming back to your posts to learn and apply to my desired build and goals. You have done the research and I wanted to ask:
1) Where do you recommend buying the parts for the CTS V brake upgrade. I am only doing the front.

2) Have you seen the GMHTP STi Killer article? I am planning on going with those OE wheels but in black (would love the Weld's but cost is an issue).

3) I have brakemotive rotors and pads in the rear. Keep them or go with a more aggressive rear pad?

Thanks!

Keep the rear pad as is.

And Amazon is the best place to buy the CTS-V setup, including the OE pads.

Great I will price this out on Amazon. Is there anything needed for the swap that cannot be found on Amazon (stainless lines?)
