Default My CTS-V Brake Setup (Planned)

Hi All,

I've been thinking about doing brakes for a while on the car and looked at the Kore3 Z06 system and Wilwood and now I've come around on the CTS-V brakes. Here is what I'm looking at getting based on the sticky and other things I've seen:

ACDelco 177-1126 Z06 14" Cross-Drilled Front Rotors
ACDelco Brembo CTS-V 172-2287 Caliper Assembly
ACDelco Brembo CTS-V 172-2288 Caliper Assembly
ACDelco 171-0876 Front Brake Disc Pad Kit
ACDelco 18K1971X Front Brake Caliper Kit
StopTech 309.07500 Street Performance Rear Brake Pads
Flynbye CTS-V Brembo/TCS Rear Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit
ATE Type 200 DOT 4 Brake Fluid

I know I'll need a few washers to center the caliper. But that should be everything right to replace the front and rear brakes with matching rotors, somewhat close pads, and the Brembo fronts, correct?

Is there a better rear brake pad to match the GM pads? I understand they are more aggressive than HPS pads, so I'm not sure how the brake balance would be with the StopTechs.

And one final question - I intend to run CCW 18s and will tell John about my setup, but would my stock 02 Speedlines clear in the meantime? It looks like there is a ton of room behind the spokes, but the 17s themselves might be too tight and touch the caliper. I guess I could always test fit them and see what happens.

For the rotors? I can always do whatever with the rotors. I may end up running the GM Z06 rotors, but I'd like to have a matching front and rear set at least...

R1 has nice stuff.

The E-Line basically looks like what BrakeMotive sells. The Premium stuff seems a little nicer. Price difference on E-Line vs Premium is like $3 for the Z06 rotors but $100 on the rear F-Body rotors. Haha.

I'd love to know if they'd fit the inner barrel of the Speedlines without grinding.

You don't want drilled rotors since they can stress crack around the holes, slotted only is the way to go. Plus you will need new front caliper mounting brackets to align them with the larger rotors.

The front brake caliper kit is pictured below. I assume it's to keep the pads in place for the Brembo calipers and you'll also need the set for the rear.

You don't need new brackets with the CTS-V calipers and the Z06 rotors or 5th Gen rotors from everything I've seen. Direct bolt-on for the F-Body with the Z06 rotors needing washers to center the caliper and 5th Gen rotors needing the center bored out to fit my hub correct.

And I'd just need the front retaining clip since the rear will remain stock.

You sure do need different caliper brackets since the rotors are larger than your stock rotors. The calipers need to be mounted further away from the hub center and the stock brackets won't do that.

You are changing the rear calipers too so you will need the retaining clips.

Might try R1 concepts. More money, but they have higher carbon in their premium series. Since it's a street car, I don't mind running cross-drilled.

I have Brakemotive I just put on my Nissan. They seem fine. But I guess we'll see in a few months how the Hawk HPS pads eat them.

You are right, I didn't realize the V calipers mounted further out. Here's a good link with pics showing everything installed. The last pic shows the pad retaining clips that you also need in the rear.

I guess the other question is, would C5 18x10.5" wheels clear? I could run them all the way around with 295/35-18s...

Or, I've asked CCW if their 505A would fit in an 18" with these. I know in a 19" they can fit if they mill them and run high-offset with a 1" lip...

Not really. And its cheaper
I have 400into my 11 ss brembos with rotors compared to your 2k setup
Only thing I did was drill out the spindle and machined the hub on the totors

Yeah, there's no modification with the Z06+CTS-V combo. Just some washers to center the calipers. Otherwise, it's about $600 with the stainless lines. And it's all OE stuff, so I have some pretty good faith in it. Oh, and it's HUGE.

Talking to CCW right now about getting 18" 505As that will clear...

^Im pretty sure 18s clear no problem, the lip is just 1" smaller to clear. Just when I thought you were spending a shitload of money on your car, your getting CCWs and a BBK, amen brother!

Yeah, that's what John said. 1" lip and maybe the clearancing on the back of the spokes.

And I need more brakes than stock. No sense in having a lot of power and not spending smartly to control that power.

If that rim isn't a 44mm offset it want fit right that's why I haven't done this yet because my c5 zo6 rims wouldn't fit.
