Default 400$ to install a torque arm and weld in 2 point SFCs. Fair?

So I went to a somewhat local speedshop here in SC to get a quote on having 2 point Subframe connectors and a torque arm with relocation bracket installed on my 98 Z28 and was quoted 400$. Being that I have no point of reference on suspension labor, is this fair? Or high? It seems that the logic with the torque arm is getting it set up where the car launches properly. Thanks for any input.

On a side note, when it comes to SFCs, can most exhaust shops be trusted to do this? Or should I only take my car to a 'speed shop' for things like this? How about for the torque arm? I obviously doubt I can take my car to an average mechanic and have that set up properly.

Honestly I would recommend a speed shop or at least someone who is known to do this work. If they just slap in a torque arm and the pinion angle isn't adjusted properly it will cause you headaches. And most average muffler shops can barely weld exhaust pipe, so I doubt I would trust them with subframe connectors. Just my opinion.

Seems fair to me considering the labor involved and the average shop rate.

I would install the torque arm yourself and then have a shop weld in the SFC's ..

cut down on cost big time

Another question- if I have this set up and then end up getting rear LCAs and relocation brackets, would the TA need to be adjusted again?

The torque arm would not need to be re-adjusted after proper pinion angle is achieved. The lower control arms and relocation bracket will not affect the pinion angle.

I wouldn't pay that. It may take 20-30 mins to put on a set of subframe connectors and another hour to put a torque arm on( maybe faster if it's on a lift with easy access to said parts) set pinion angle with an angle finder and be done. I mean, if you've never done it then it may take longer, but if you're running a speed shop this shouldn't be the case. Sounds like a rip off to me.

At $80-100 an hour they're billing you for 4-5hrs labor.

Quoted shop rate was 70$ an hour. Also I should note the SFCs are 2 point weld ins.

Thank you for the info on the LCAs UMI!

If you're running a professional shop you should still be able to weld in some 2 pt subframe connectors in an Fbody in no time at all. I would really encourage you to do it yourself, then have someone set the pinion angle for you then put that $400 you saved to more mods!

Yep you just zip the front LCA bolts out and back in, prop up the SFC and weld it up. It took less than an hour at my buddy's shop on a drive-on lift. Make sure it's done on one of those, the suspension must be loaded.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll save some money. I guess these are 'we're the only game in town' prices. The one issue however is that currently the car has dumped true duals and that another MAJOR priority is getting my exhaust set up to use chambered Magnaflows instead of the low hanging bullet mufflers on the car now. I was worried that I would need to get the SFCs and especially the torque arm in before I had this exhaust work done due to clearance issues.

Ill get a picture of what Im going for exhaust wise (edit here we go)
