Newbie trying to do rear end
Ok so I'm new to building cars up. I want to take the stock 10 bolt out and replace with a 9 bolt. From what I've been researching the 10 bolt tends to need replacing when you start throwing a lot of power to it especially since I have a 6 speed. My question is where do I start ? How do I know what I need and how do I determine which parts to get ? Like what's spline ?how do I figure out what center section spline number and such.

Your best bet is to always go with 35SPL, is it always needed no however if you can you should for possible future growth.

I saw a 9" Moser Ford rear end housing. Bolt in for Fox body Mustang with UPR upper and lower control arms. Comes with two sets of axles, 35 spline gun drilled Moser. Also includes custom made Strange caliper brackets for their drag brakes. Will that work on my car ?

9" is a Ford designed rearend that people put in tons of different vehicles. It's not a rear that necessarily comes out of a Ford.
Check out many threads here, but your three main choices are rears are 9", S60 and 12 bolt. Most people will use either the 9" or S60 as the 12 bolt starts to have pinion problems (I guess)

1) most cost effective (less then $2000) for the back yard mechanic
2) basically stock car with option to increase in horsepower up to 400hp
3) whole kit and doesn't require cutting
4) i like the range of the stock - but should I change the gear ratio; what do I change it to. I'd like a little more 0-60 performance
5) best fit for 275/40/17 tires
I'd really apprecite help.

1) Less than $2000 for new is going to be difficult especially for anything with quality behind it.
2) HP isn't necessarily what breaks parts and why you should look into an aftermarket rear end. It is the torque arm mounting style plus the vehicle weight.
3) Not to many quality aftermarket rear ends on the market require cutting, however some like the MWC fabricated housing is the only one that bolts back in like the factory 10-bolt came out utilizing things like brake line clips, brake line bracket, sway bar brackets, and e-brake brackets.
4) Gear ratio is an option you feel best with for your desired application. We can give suggestions but the use of only calculators are your best information.
5) As for tire fitment, a rear end like ours can be built to 100% stock widths or narrowed if you desired it to be. If you want a custom width it can be done, purchase the wheel and tire combination you like. Set them up in the vehicle and give the measurement and any shop that knows what they are doing can use those measurements to build you the correct width housing.

Layaway works with a $500 non refundable deposit on rear ends and pay on it as long as you would like with no penalties or time limits. Deposit is non transferable to another person if purchaser changes their mind on their order.
