Default New one piece strut spring compressor rental tool at Az

I work at autozone and thought I would share this with you guys. I have an absolute hate for the old two piece spring compressors, this new free rental tool looks to be the solution

Free rental, so it's $199.99 and you get that money back when you return the tool.

I need to replace my front struts, I may try this new tool out this week

Autozone sku 641429T

Keep us updated, those 2 piece ones are about useless for removing a lowering spring from a strut.

Bought some new struts, I'll post a review and maybe a video tomorrow.

My Kyb AGX shocks are trashed and they are destroying my exhaust.

Don't hate on me for using the Gabriel ultra struts, I'm going to get a different spring a shock setup eventually

What's the part number and how exactly do you adjust it? Also, did AZ take away the OBD-II scanner tools available for rent?

641429T for the spring compressors. At the bottom of the big arm that holds them together is a 1/2 insert for a 1/2 ratchet. Spin left to open the claws, spin right to close them

There are two obd2 rental tools. They are pricey but we have them

I don't mind the 2 individual compressors myself. Never had an issue.

So compressing the spring took literally 5 seconds.

Instead of fighting the clamps, adjusting, doing one side, then the other, it just worked

Now I'm waiting on the rust dissolver

Well I'll be damned....

Not to comfy with that tiny string for a retention feature if it pukes out...

I had the same problem with my struts and a rusted upper nut. Ended up grinding the nut off. Stock shocks were being thrown away anyways.

I also thought to drill a hole in the shock tower to allow air/water to escape instead of getting trapped. Hell maybe assemblt the new strut then glob rtv/silicone all over the nut/shock rod to keep water from getting to it.

Yeah not sure on the retention but it worked, it's just so the spring has a raised edge it won't slide out of

I saved the strut too, didn't have to chisel it out, was difficult to get leverage but I figured it out

Not sure what a blown AGX is worth but it's re usable lol

Honestly the spring compressors actually helped me with leverage. I had alot more freedom to get at the nut and get a good hold on the strut to work the bolt free

I called my local Autozone and the girl that answered the phone said she couldn't find anything for that part number. I then tried starting describing it and I'm fairly sure she had no idea what a spring compressor even was. Looks like I'll have to call another AutoZone or ride up there and see what I can figure out.

Not surprising. Parts stores around me I won't even bother going in or calling without the exact PN I need. All I use them for is to verify they have said part and I go buy it.

And they STILL want to sell me fuel injector cleaner...that **** is always on sale...

You have to explain to her that it's shaped like the tool they use at the gynecologies office to open her up,.....but this tool is used for compressing springs on cars. She will have a better understanding of what your looking for

Looks like a Great tool. I still remember the 1st time I replaced mine, what a nightmare. Remember how people were always telling you NOT to cut into a shock? Well I just had to find out why, Verrrry carefully.

I had to cut the passengers side strut rod, the nut was not able to be saved, or should I say my wrenches would not get a solid enough grip to turn the nut.

I cut it just below the strut mount where it meets the boot

I was asking my local autozone about this and they had no clue about it and couldn't find out anything. When doing some google searching I found it on an autozone service tool brochure listed as 641429 and SKU 449972. But when searching their website there's no listed for either of these, nor the tool by name, grrr
