Default 94 Z28, how do i make the suspension stiffer on a budget?

hey guys, i made a exhaust system which requires more clearance. i am wondering if there is a cheap/easy way to stiffen up the suspension and maybe get a bit more ride height.

I travel a lot with my Z. Carry a lot of 'stuff' in the back, full size spare, complete tools, spare parts, fluids. Used those spacers for over 10 years. Installation easy, raise rear of car to have rear end hanging and use large channel locks to 'twist' in. They will change the ride,a bit more 'bouncier'.

oh man.. spring spacers... those may come off if you hit a speed bump just right.
it would also dramatically increase the spring rate in the rear as it compresses.
i do not recommend this.
i can't see how this would be safe either.

Cheap is relative. Good lowering springs are under $300, throw in decent shocks for another $400.

^^^^^He wants to RAISE the ride height, not lower it.

Might not be dealing with the sharpest tool in the shed...???

You can buy springs in any length and rate you want

I'd maybe start by replacing the soft parts. Just getting fresh bushings under there can dramatically tighten up the ride

fair, I should have clarified. Although the lowering springs would lower it, a better spring rate would probably help with the bottoming out issues. Although shocks and bushing would probably be in order too.

I would recommend good lowering springs and Koni STR shocks, you can do this for $600-700 and it would completely transform the car.

I would ask where the problem actually lies before suggesting suspension parts.

What is the exact problem? Exhaust clearance related. Lowering springs would not be the answer to an exhaust clearance issue!

Where is the clearance issue at?

> If it is the exhaust getting hit by the axle under compression, it sounds like the over axle pipe needs adjusted.
> If it is the exhaust hitting the ground, it sounds like the pipe is hanging too low and needs to be tucked up under the car better.
> Other?

Simply raising the car up is just a band-aid.

I missed the exhaust clearance issue. I guess I was focused on stiffer, better ride on a budget.

Yes, different exhaust won't have those issues.
