Check the jack & spare tire and any other junk
that ends up in that well behind the fender?

Try tightening up your antenna, it sounds stupid, but it will make noise if it's loose

It could be many things. Most commonly its a LCA bolt that isn't torqued down far enough.

I second the LCA bolt thing; they have to be tightened more than you would think. The LCA can't be allowed to rotate on the bolt. The bolt must provide enough clamping force on the sleave so the LCA only rotates on the sleave.

Another thing it can be is the rear hatch being loose. You may need to adjust the hatch bump stops up a bit.

You should torque the LCA's down to about 105 ft/lbs on the SFC side, and 95 ft/lbs on the rear end side. But you will have a hard time fitting a torque wrench in there on the SFC side. Just get em really tight

try to rock it your exhaust tip. on mine, it does the same thing when i go over the bump. what happen is the exhaust hanger on pass rear(the rubber part gets loose) so the pipe hit the bar(forgot about the name but it start with P. it gose from driver side rear end housing to pass side frame) that is the loud clunking noise
at least is for my z28.
but check it out

oh god not you too. i had a clunk/rattle sound coming from my passenger rear side of the car. It sounds like a bolt is slightly loose or maybe a bolt rattling in a controll arm. Well today i installed my lower controll arm bracket and figured i would kill two birds with one stone. I had the shocks out and replaced the bushings(one was oval) i installed the brackets and the controll arms and torqued everything down(under load of course). I go to drive home and say wow the rattle is gone, as soon as i said it, it started to rattle, no ****... Now im pissed, i mean i checked basically every bolt on the damn rear of the car. The only thing now that i can think of is a bolt that is too small(thin) that goes through the controll arm/shock mount or panhardrod and thats rattling around in the spacer just enough to hear it. It is definately a metal to metal sound and can be heard going over small bumps, big bumps dont make it worse so that tells me that what ever is moving isnt moving alot, like something that is just rubbing and a bump in the road lets you hear it...

I have aftermarket LCA's and was having a annoying clunk on passenger side. Took awhile to figure out problem because looking at it was hard to tell, but the weld broke on the sleeve in the LCA. So over bumps it would move enough to make a clunk sound. sounded like a piece of metal smacking the floorboard under the passenger seat.

I had the same problem a year ago. I finally decided to change shocks and see if it helped. When I removed everything to get to the top shock bolt, it had come completely off!! and was sitting there in the foam padding that covers the top of the shock. I put the nut back on, problem solved. I had never messed with the shocks and bought the car new so go figure.

I actually had a clunking and appears at times then goes away. But what has really helped since is while the car in on the ground go to the back of the hatch area. Lift the carpet and make sure the shock bushings are going through the hole on both sides. I had the passenger side shock bushing that was not all the way through the whole and the clunking used to happend every dam stop and go. I agree with the member uptop who said it could be the exhuast pipe hitting where it goes over the pipe. I'll have a chance to check this weekend. Also some members have said it could be the y-pipe banging on the floor board.
