Default traction control

I just bought a 2001 SS and was wondering if traction control was standard or optional on the SS's. I figured all of them had it and that it was always on, but there's a dummy button on my dash just to the right of the fog light switch, which makes me think it was an on/off switch for ones that did have traction control. Anyone know? Thanks.

Not all models came with TCS, My 2k WS6 has TCS and I really dont like it, but it is a nice feature to have on wet rainy days!!

Push the button and see what happens!!...

i like it a lot on rainy days. When it's dry out i turn it off. I like having the option, rather then being forced into not having it.

It was supposed to be "optional" but by 2002,
good luck finding one without it.

my 2001 ss doesn't have it...i'm a little dissapointed but i suppose its not a huge deal since i'm not much into racing it. although i do agree, it would be nice in the rain.

oh yeah. i just found out that the original owner of my ss was Jim Koch, the owner of Sam Adams Brewery. Not that that means much, but thought it was interesting trivia on my car.

Are you sure it's a dummy button?

Cars with traction control (ASR) have that button so it can be turned off. By default TC is on until you switch it off.

Most would agree it's a hindrance to racing. I have the reversal module from SLP. By default mine is off until i switch it on

All I know is that it looks like there's supposed to be a button there, but its not...its a filler piece. It doesn't push it at all and has no writing on it. Is it possible that its always on?

can you break the tires loose? If so, then you dont have tcs. IF they just chirp, and the car slows down, then you have tcs. My 01 TA WS6-6 actually pushes back against the pedal if the tcs comes on, i dont know if this is standard or not, but it is really enoying

If you don't have the button, then you don't have TCS. Check under your hood and see if you have a TCS fuse.

My car has the same thing - and no traction control. ASR/TCS cars have RPO code NW9 on the driver's side door.

I think the TCS is great, this is the first rear wheel drive vehicle I have ever owned and the TCS has already saved my *** a few times. It is great till I learn how to drive it but I think when that happens it will start to annoy me!

what mine does as well, and is pretty annoying. i find the best use for traction control is saving my tires, i almost never switch it off, course i dont race much either.

i love it, i had a 110hp mazda before this car. So the power is still something to get used to. The traction control is nice when the roads are wet, going sideways isn't fun.

I like my TCS button being right there in front of the shifter. Whenever i know i'm gonna need to spin em, i just hit the button and punch the gas I kept my ABS tho, its saved me a couple of times.

the spot next to the foglight switch is just a blank. that may be where the tc switch would go when i took the trim plate off that goes around the radio and a/c controls that blank had wires conected to it . i assume for the tc switch if i had it. but i was thinking that would be a nice place to mount a switch for nitrous or somthing also the camaro plate next to it has 2 more knockouts where you could put 2 more switches if you use gm switches it would look factory like for a starter kill switch!!
