now im not sure but for some reason this metal scraping sound started to happen from the rear. it only happens after i hit the brakes and then gas it around a corner it sounds like metal is scraping, i looked at my left rear brake rotor and there is two pretty deep lines that looked like something was scraping. i think it is the brake pads that need to be changed anyone else have any opinions

the scraping is the wear indicater on your brake pads... and if you waited this long chances are you need your rotors turned too...

pull pads, pull rotors, take roters to machine shop, ask them to turn your rotors, get them back replace rotors, put new pads on, drink a cold one...

screw having the stock rotors turned, those are warp-monsters even before having them turned down. Order a fresh set of iRotors or Wholesale Direct rotors and new pads and swap them out. Your brakes are worn out.

you've warped a set of REAR rotors?

i been thru 4 sets of fronts, but never once had any trouble with the back ones...

haven't warped the rears, but if those rears are worn down I'd say his fronts are very close to going as well. In a matter of weeks, probably all of them will be squealing.

Time to order a set of new rotors/pads - fix the problem before it gets worse.

Tony's right. Don't waste your time/money turning the stock rotors. They are hunks of ****.

I've warped at least 4 sets of front rotors in my LS1 ...never the rears though.

I am doing this also, right after SFC's. The scrape/clunk is making me nervous, front AND rear.

eh , just a trend i noticed... everyone warps the fronts... but never seen a stock rear warped...
i just dont spend money i dont have to...

i definatly agree on the getting after maket front rotors... they warp any time you have to stand on the brake...

long story short , everyone agrees its time for a brake job

Actually, I believe the warpage occurs after heaving braking then not letting go of the brake. The rotor cools quicker everywhere else as a result causing it to warp slightly.

I could be wrong though since I'm definitely no expert on braking. I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express recently though. Maybe the commercials are right?

it may occor more there as well, but i have had them warp on me on a road cource were i never stopped... but did have to stand on em twice because some rice club was there and they couldn't drive for ****...

(note just because your wrx is the same body style as the rally cars that does not mean owning one endows you with driving or drifting knowlage .... that is all)

but for some reason the scraping sound only occurs when i hit a bump or go around a corner. it wasnt like the sound came all the time it just sounds bad, could it be the metal part on the bottom of the pad that is making the sound or the caliper is scraping somehow??

Just another idea, I was doing some brake work on my car and removed the rear rotors. I noticed the driver side emergency brake shoe was loose from the backing plate. I was getting a rattle from the rear every now and then so that explained my rattle away. May be the same problem only the shoes are worse or it may be something else. I know that if I would not have removed the rotor I would have never thought that would have caused my rattle.

where is the E-Brake pads at on the car, are they behind the rear rotors or what?? and could this be the cause of the scraping sound

Yes the E-brake shoes are behind the rear rotors. The center of the rotor is a drum for the shoes. The E-brake is more or less setup like a drum brake system. You have an adjuster at the bottom to adjust the brake shoe. The brake shoe is a single band of brake material that is bent around in a circle.

my stepdad said that it sounds like a wheels bearing is going bad and is causing the sqeek has anyone had their wheel bearings relpaced or relubed??

A wheel bearing will cause a roaring noise similar to a plane taking off and will come and go depending on which way you are turning. If it is a bearing in the rear end you will have to pull the axles to replace them. There are C-clips in the differential that will release the axles. I believe the bearing is pressed onto the axle but I may be wrong.

You aren't really. The bearings are pressed into the axle housing. Not necassarily the axles themselves.

yeah i got a guy to look at it and he said i need to get the rotors rotated and new brake pads and it will be fixed.
