Default Need help putting front caliper back onto the disk.

I've been working on this for 2 hours, and its getting dark!!!!

I need your advice on how to get the front caliper back onto the rotor. I took the caliper off to change the brake pads. I also took off the caliper mounting bracket to change the rotor. So I have my new rotor and pads on the car, and I for the life of me can't get the caliper back on. It almost seems as if its warped. I have both of the cylinders pushed in, using a c-clamp and an old brake pad.

So what's the secret? Really big hammer and hit it against the caliper? Beat it to my will?

Unless they are seized, then you want to pull them out and lube them with disk brake lubricant.

Figured it out, I got the wrong rotor. Wrong part # on it. I went to the dealership to get the part #, then I ordered it from gmpartsdirect.com

GM parts direct might have shipped me the wrong part. The part # on the old rotor was 18021014. The part # on the new rotor is 18041873. The part # on my invoice from gmparts direct is 18060640.

I think GM parts direct screwed up and shipped me the wrong parts. Or I screwed up and gave them the wrong part #, and they didn't give me the part that I specified. Either way, I'm out of $150

Are the guide pins the metal part at the top and bottom of the pad mounting bracket???

They are where the bolts that hold the caliper on go. Those bolts screw into the slider pins. They have a rubber boot on them and you can just gently pull it loose and slide them out of there so you can clean and grease them.

The numbers cast into parts on your car don't necessarily match the GM part #. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they are a casting # given by the supplier of the part that makes it for GM.
Just saying, unless you know the # on your disc is supposed to match the GM part #, it might have been the right part!
