no the torque arm keeps the rear end from rotating. if the car were driven without a torque arm it would cause serious damage!

You would get a gang of wheel hop and probably brake the driveshaft off the rear. No way can it be done without the torque arm in place.

I wouldn't even lower it off the jack(stands) without a torque arm. The springs are located significantly behind the axle. The only things stopping the axle from just spinning around and dropping the car are the shock mounting bolts, which aren't designed for that kind of bending load.

wow, reading some of you guys responses makes me feel pretty lucky!

I was at a stoplight a couple weeks after my Moser install, and I went to accelerate and it felt like something popped in the back and then a really bad vibration. I pulled to the side of the road, and my TA had come off the rear. (2 top bolts came out), and the pinion angle was all messed up.

Def do not drive it without one.

Either get a proper stock one on, or an aftermarket bolt on TA. Do not under any circumstances operate the vehicle without a torque arm.

Same thing happened to me. My top mount broke. Limped it home and on every bump a horrible noise would come out of the rear. It was the bottom of the springs grinding against the spring perches on the rearend because it was rotated so far back. I'm lucky the springs didn't just fall out.

I have a stock torque arm off my WS6 if you are interested. I'll sell it cheap.
