Default Busted sway bar link

When removing my sway bar link to replace the shocks, I busted the threaded rod holding the sway bar linkage.

I went to Home Depo and bought some 3/8 threaded rod and cut it to lenght. Is this OK to use or should I buy a (two) new GM bolts?

The sway bar plastic linkage is mared up a tad from normal use. Should I dump this too?

Thanks...

Home depot fasteners in general are not to be trusted
and that goes for threaded rod. It's way below grade
for suspension.

Check out your AutoZone, selling the Energy Suspension
or similar end-link and bushings in blister-packs.

I would get all new ones..you want the bolt to be up to spec to hold.

I'd do as jimmyblue suggested, Autozone has poly endlinks that are made out of grade 8 material if I'm not mistaken for a reasonable price. The bolts/threaded rod you bought from Home Depot are probably a grade 3 material which is a big difference when it comes to withstanding the forces being applied.

OK thanks - that is good advice. Do the new poly end links come with the sway bar end bolt or are the bolts sold separately?

Is this a part that is usually in stock at AutoZone; my GM dealer blows - he has nada in stock.

Why the hell does GM design these bolts so they break easily if rusty? Seems shody to me.

They had a whole 4'x'8 wall of 'em last time I went
looking. Bring the busted one so you know which
length.

I picked up two for my '88 Camaro at my local Napa several years ago. It was a kit that included new bushings, washers & the bolts.

The passenger-side bolt just rusted and broke on it's own. I remember glancing at the car while it sat in my parent's driveway and wondering what that was that was hanging down under the car?
