C5 vs F-body Calipers?

Re: C5 vs F-body Calipers?
Well I looked at the calipers on my fathers 00 Vette and my 01 Z28 and the only difference is the name CORVETTE on them. The vette ones might have some cooling ribs on the top, but I didn't look at the Z's that closely.
I looked up the pad numbers on GMPartsDirect, and although they have different part numbers, the last 5 digits are the same.

Do they have the same mounting point locations? If they are more rigid, and the mounts are the same, they should be a nice cheap upgrade.

Yep, the C5 calipers are all pressure cast - previous GM/PBR calipers were gravity cast. Though they look the same at initial glance the C5 caliper is also of a slightly different construction, and because of that more rigid - it resists spreading better. I believe Baer has started using these calipers (as opposed to the older C4/PBR caliper) in their new GTP kits.

Because both calipers are 2-piston "floating" calipers, is it possible to mate the C5 caliper with the F-body bracket? Are the sliding pins in the same position? Rotor dia. and thickness should be the same, right? Any differences in piston diameter between the two?

You COULD mount up a C5 caliper on your fbody IF you had the right mounting bracket.. at least I dont see why not..
When you buy the Baer GTP setup you basicly get a 13" rotor, a C5 caliper (with Baer on the side instead of Corvette).. and the proper bracket to attach it all to your spindle (after cutting off the fbody mounting nubs..
To me $1200 for the bear kit is NOT the best bang for the buck out there.. even according to Baer the improvement is only a little over stock fbody brakes.. Now their 4 and 6 piston Alcon kits (while pricy) will give you a HUGE improvement over stock..

I know it's a little off the subject, but I seem to recall Roy putting Porche brakes on an F-BODY!
I e-mailed him earlier today to see how and how much$$$$$.
Might be something to consider based on cost effectiveness! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
