I have a 2002 Z28 with the A4 and just over 10,000 miles. On rare occasions when my car's rolling (or when my foot isn't pushing down on the gas pedal) at around 15-20 MPH, I would hear a clunking noise coming from around the suspension area once I push down on the gas pedal. I've had this problem probably since when the car had around 3,000 miles, but I've always thought that it was normal. Quite recently, I was driving with my Uncle in the car during highway traffic. He heard the noises and pointed out that those noises weren't normal and, at first, thought that maybe there was something wrong with the differential and then, later, thought that there was something wrong with the u-joint. Therefore, I made an appointment with the dealership to diagnose and repair the problem under warranty. Do you have any idea what my problem could be? Thanks in advance for the info.

Hear the exact same thing in my car (your description in right on). My noise sounds like it is from the rear passengers side, but noises can be misleading. My first thought was U-joint also. My car is an '02 Z28 A4 with about 5,000 miles on it and mine has done it since day one. I drive the car fairly hard, but I have not noticed the problem getting any worse, so for now I think having to deal with the dealership is more of hassle and an annoyance than the noise. Anyway, since I put on my Corsa cat-back I can't hear it as easily so it doesn't bother me as much. Time will tell whether it gets worse or not. That is what warranties are there for.

Make sure that your LCAs are tight. I had this problem, tightened them up...and it went away!

What's the torque spec on the Lower Control Arms? I think mine might be a little loose. I get a sort of creak/clunk from around the LCA area when I go quickly OR come to a complete stop quickly.
I was going to get Spohn LCAs put in anyway...now that I'm putting it off, I want to make sure the stock ones are tight.
Thanks

check bolts on brake caliper, LCA, torque arm, panhard rod, swaybar, and make sure your tranny mount is not busted wide opened.

I noticed a similar clunking after purchasing a '98 TA with about 15K miles. Upon a closer inspection of the rear end - I discovered a small leak around the rear pinion seal. In my case, the rear end had lost enough fluid to allow for the noise. The dealer replaced the seal and the noise continued - after checking with various F-Body sites, I discovered two things: One, F-Body rear ends are for ****, and will always have a little noise, and two, you have to have a special additive in the rear end. I returned my car to the dealer, and requested the additive. It made a considerable difference in the rear end noise - and my Pontiac dealer initially thought it wasn't necessary due to the synthetic fluid they add. Make them add it! Hope this helps...
