Default Best Tire?

Ok .. I am tired of spending money on those Damn Goodyear F1 tires. They don't last long and they are expensive.. Which tire is best for the front of the car I have 17 Inch wheels I want a tire that will last a long time and doesn't cost 200+ a tire. Any suggestions?

You got 400rwhp and you can't quite figure out why yer tires are wearing out? Hmmmm....

2 ways you can go: Buy really crappy handling/launching/braking HARD tires that'll last awhile; or keep buying softer tires that launch/brake/handle better...

Bridgestone Potenza RE730's are awesome, last a decent amount of time, stick to the road very well, and have awesome wet traction. I have 3-4k on my RE730's so far, and i absolutely love them. Check em out.. i got mine for 165 a peice.. size 285/40ZR17's...

Nitto 555 not the drag radials.Discount tire has them.I think they were like $160.00 and they are a real good tire.

Well my F1 lasted over 32k with rotating every 3-5k. I now have Kumho 712 Ecsta's $110 ea at the tire rack ---->
Have over 20k on them now, and they hold up great, and the wet traction can't be beat!

I have a couple of friends with the kumhos they do not hook at all. They are pretty good in the rain but the nitto is a far better tire.

Well, I guess it depends on where you drive it. I think I would rather spend $110 on a high milage tire that's good in the rain and gives up a little bit on the track, than $150 for 15k ona tire that's good on the track. Since you alluded you replced F1s with F1s already, I assume you drive on the street. My Kumhos hhok just fine on the street. I don't about you, but where I live we actually run on the street, not show our timeslips to one another, and who ever has the lowest timeslip wins For the $$, Kumhos get my vote!

You will get more than 15k on the nittos. There are two versons of the 555s.I am not talking abot the drag radials although I do have them on the back. You didnt think I had them on the front also did you.I am not that stupid. The 555s are great in the rain also. They are far better as far as hydroplaining than the f1s.

I was thinking of going with the 555 on the front and maybe the 555r on the rear. What sizes are you running? I have the stock wheels so I could do 275 all around or maybe 285 in front (I don't think the 555r come in the 285). I was also considering upgrading my rear wheels so I could run the 555R 315s. Would that work OK; running 555R 315s on larger wheels in the back and then maybe 555 285 on the stock wheels in the front? Oh, I don't know... I getting an agressive H/C done w/ Headers, suspension, clutch, and a Strange 12-bolt 4:10 Rear so I wanted to make sure I can get the most traction from all this stuff. Any advice?

Maybe I'll just burn through my stock tires with my new setup and then get the Nitto 555 275/40/17 on the front and the 555R on the back later. If I feel I need something a bit more I can always get the larger wheels later...

The Kumhos are a great cornering tire, quiet, the shoulders hold up good on the fronts, and they are relatively cheap. I got 30k miles on the rears and 32k miles on the fronts. Could have easily gotten another 5k miles on the fronts but busted one up on some road debris and replaced both.

Quit wasting money on ANY Goodyears. Kumho Supra Ecsta 712s...easy answer!

I've heard 99% "good only" testimony about the new Kumho Ecsta MX tire. An affordable "max performance" tire for the masses. Alas, I have no personal testimony......

How about the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Positions??? They have GREAT dry and wet traction ratings on Tirerack and the guys at TiresPlus told me they stick like glue on dry pavement.

I will be buying a set of them in 265/40/17....they have the same x-sectional width as the 275/40/17 SZ50's and have a thread contact patch 1.1" WIDER than the SZ50's. PLUS they are 0.4" SHORTER for less sidewall Sounds like a great combo if you ask me

Just a side note about the 555 Nittos. A local to me guy, has had his rebalance every 500-1000 miles, he currently has over 8 oz on them. The rims are fine, this set tires are just **** I'm not saying all Nittos suck, but For the money, the mileage and quality could be better, when compared to a "cheap" tire like the Kumho

If you are looking for a decent tire @ a reasonable price, i currently have the Dunlop SP5000 on my 17in.10 spokes.Mine is a daily Driver & the tires do well on wet/dry surfaces. Also, low hwy noise! Pretty nice tread pattern as well!
Works for me. My 02 FWIW..........

If you want a really good tire you want "NITTO"
there is no other better gripping tire out there
for the money. about 160.00 at discount tire.
and if you find a tire shop that sells any tire for cheaper they will beat that price. I must say that because I am cheap. I only like spending money on my car but i still look for a deal.

good luck!

They have a soft sidewall. I have them and they are ok. Very good deal for the price. Easily the best tire under $100.
