They last a long time and handle great. They dont hook up worth a shiz on the back though. Use the money you save on the front 2 to get a pair on Nittos on the back.

I was going to concur with the last. They last a long time. Great lasting tire for the price. They just don't hook very well.

Yeah, they don't hook in wet or dry. You have to really baby it off the line when it's raining. The thread looks good when you're up to speed in the rain. It seems to channel water pretty well. It's a good tire for the price.

for me they hooked much better than the kdw's i have now (twice the price of the kumho's)

maybe traction in virginia is just different? i thought they hooked great.. several 1.99 60's which on my track is good for a street tire with a 6 speed.

once you drive on a drag radial though, pretty much every regular tire out there has terrible traction

I have them in 18's and love them. They look awesome, and grip just fine for me since I really just need them for daily driving. If you don't hit the track that much, then I wouldn't worry about them not hooking up so much. It hasn't rained, but from what i've heard from people who have them, their not that bad at all.

IMHO i hated the kumho since ive had them. they wouldnt grab off the line, but after a few months they are alot better. it has rained for 10 days straight here in houston and i now have a new repect for them, in the rain they hold good, and even with the new converter in my car they kumhos dont spin that bad, i was expecting much worse. good tire for the money.

Decent tire for the price...but that's it.

They are fairly noisy on the highway.
They follow road ruts really bad.
Rain traction is decent in a straight line...but only in light rain..they can't handle the hard stuff.

These? They don't hook as well as Kuhmos? I was going to get a set. Can you give more details?

This is my second set of 712 on my Z28, definitely light year better than the OEM RS-A in every performance category except in snow. These tires gives surpisingly good grip in hot weather, pretty hard to break it loose even from dead stop in summer. Cold weather tracion is HORRIBLE though, can''''''''t out launch any car when the temp drops below 50F. Wet grip is alright but not great, but hydroplan is never a problem even in rain storm, probably of the tread pattern. Again, mixing rain with cold temp really sucks, would say close to dangerous when coming out of sharp corners from stop, the car just sit there spinning, definitely frustarting. And NEVER drive them in snow, unless you want to get youself killed. Really long lasting in my case, but not with my friend''''s FWD for some reason. Again, the tires really suck in cold temp, may try KDWS for better cold temp traction.

Whoever said that products made in Korea are second rate, NEVER drove with KUMHOS!!! Not that I'''m going to run out and buy a Hyundai/Kia/Deawoo! I can't believe that a tire this inexpensive can perform so well. This is my FOURTH go around with tires on my Vette...(1 Gatorbacks, 2GSC's).The Goodyear tires are good dry weather tires, but miserable in the wet... And living in the "Sunshine" State where it rains at least 40% of the time, wet tire performance is important. I considered the Kuhmos after many hours of research and comparisons with other brands, plus I was getting tired of shelling out a grand and up on tires every year and a half! I figured if the Kuhmos stink well I'm only out about $500. But it smells like sweet roses! These Kuhmos are quiet, smooth, a plethora of dry grip, and wet grip that rivals Firehawks Z50 (About the best wet traction tire that you can get for a Vette... Kuhmos are a VERY close second.) In fact I'm so pleased with this brand, that I chucked the Goodyear HP (with about 12000mi left) from my 98 Audi A6, and bought 712's for it!

I have these. They def last a long time. Rain traction is decent. I mean, you're not going to do hard launches in the rain, but who the hell would want to? Don't compare them to a drag radial, cause they're not one. For the price, I'd get them again.

Although I did get a 2.07 60' at the strip with them

Going to have to disargree...

I've had them on both my Camaro's and I do not like them. I don't drag race but I do AX/HPDE events. They're fine when you first get them but after that they just suck.

When I AX they they are fine on the first run but once they get heat in them they're gone and they get progressively worse. As the miles add up the dry traction goes downhill quick.

As as an alternative I would reccomend the Yokohama ES100's, alittle bit more $ but a completely different tire in terms of performance. Never had any issues with them like the 712's.

I have had them. They are ok in the rain and will not hook for ****. The belts shift making them difficult to keep balanced. I have had them on a Honda and my WS6. The Nittos are a FAR BETTER TIRE PERIOD. I would go through a pair of 712's a year or so and the Nittos are on their second year no real wear apparent and I drive like I stole it. They outlast the Kumhos easily. Cornering grip is very good with the Nittos too.
Kumhos aren't bad if you are just looking at the price. However the Nittos are $178 @ dicounttiredirect.com.(285-40/17) and the Kumhos @ $106 are not a great deal to me if I have to buy them twice as often. Also discount tire has been great in honoring the warrantee and roadhazard.
