Default Installing G stop brakes, g2 springs and shocks... questions...

I am in the process of installing G2 springs, bilstein shocks, and G stop (front only) rotors, and hawk pads.

Do I need to do anything to any "bump stops" with my front or rear suspension? I reused the factory front shock shrouds w/ what appears to be a built in bump stop or something. Is that all I need? - and what about the rear - should I modifiy anything back there?

These new g stop rotors are f-in' big. And sooo nice looking too. Can't wait to get the brakes broken in and the car back on the road.

This week I'll start the rear of the car. I've only completed the front so far.

TIA
Rob

Rob,
You're gonna need to cut down the rear bump stops. They are made of some stiff foam junk. Cut off the traingular portion of the stop, leaving only the rectangular portion of it...you should be taking off about 1.5" of material. It will still serve it's purpose but won't snub the axle every time you hit a large bump.

Thanks Jon.. I'll do that.

The stupid G Stop caliper relocation brackets that LG Motorsports sent to me came without any instructions or anything. I just torqued the bolts that were included with them to 74 ft lbs, and the stock bolts too. 74 ft lbs with blue threadlocker. I guess that'll do the trick.

Hope I'm not forgetting anything... There's kind of a lot of things to do w/ this job. I guess I'll put in the stainless brake lines at a later date.

I don't agree with cutting the bumpstops to "rectangular". They are pointed so that their action on the axle is progressive. Making the square will abrupstly stop the axle and upset the car. Call LG and talk to Lou or Louis (not ANYONE else) about this.

I run G2s and haven't altered my rear bump stops at all.

I suppose it is different depending on which springs you get.
With my Eibachs, I had to cut them down because the axle would hit the bumpstop on every bump.

ok.. I'll just leave the bumpstops alone unless I have some problems with them or something. I called LG today and spoke with Rick. .. had some questions about the install. So far so good.

Cutting the stops relieves the symptoms, not teh problem (too light a spring rate)

The reason for the bumpstops is so that the rearend housing does not hit the frame. This would cause an Infinite spring rate, causing the car to immediately go into "snap" oversteer (Unpredictable looseness through the middle of a corner) The bump stop has a spring rate of the rubber- so, the more it is compressed, the stiffer the spring rate. This will prevent the snap oversteer.

On the World challenge cars, we actually cut the frame where the bumpstop resides. This gave the car free, and unlimited travel with out reaching the point of hitting the frame.

In this picture below, you can see, the rim is almost in the wheel well.

Same with this picture.

I have removed, and cut my bumpstop mount. Some agree, some dont. The bumpstop is essentially what Mitch said, a crutch for a soft spring.

If you are in jeopardy of hitting, raise the car, or stiffen the spring.

ask away if you have any other questions.

Louis

Mine are gone i used mister cutting wheel...

I run LG's coilovers.... and I still haven't got the axle to hit the frame, if anything the tire (315) is rubbing inside the wheel well before that happens.
