Any pics of REAR shock-tower bracing?
I've read a couple posts recently where folks have mentioned that they've braced their rear shock-towers. I've seen this on imports (mostly 300Z's) and on 3rd gen. F-bods as well and it's always made sense to me, but until now I haven't seen it on a 4th gen. F-bod. Do any of you have pics that you can post? Did you use a brace made for another vehicle? How does it feel? How big of a difference does it make w/our solid rears?

well....it could be done...... <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" /> .....since the mounts are behind the back part of the seat. You might be able to make a bar that ran up and looped behind the seat. But it would take some serious designing.

This question comes up from time to time. I can not see that it is going to achive a mesurable difference. If some one can say where or how that is great [other than a crash that is].
Think about the control points of the rear suspension. Nor, do you have the U shape the STB closes in the front at the shock mounts or the rear spring pads.
I think the brace will look like roll a cage. :^)

Boy, I wouldn't even know how that would fit, since the top shock bolts are so deeply buried behind the back seat.
If our cars had four wheel independant rear supension I could see a benifit, but on a rigid axle car??? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

There is what appears to be a side-to-side
stamped brace from driver's rear wheel arch
to the Panhard mount (just next to). Maybe
this provides the stiffening between rear
towers that you're thinking of wanting. Not
very sturdy looking, probably beefable,
questionably worth-it.
However, since the rear shocks and their
"towers" have nothing to do with lateral
location of the rear wheels, and all force
there is pretty much vertical (in line with
the spring) I wouldn't expect much benefit
from messing there. Not like an IRS car that
might have its shock towers also housing

Related to this topic I suppose:
The chassis ears or tabs to which the panhard bar attach will bend slightly with what I think is much less force than the chassis generates on a corner. I mean if I can bend them slightly, and I weigh a lot less than the car, then they need braces. I cut and hammered two little c-shapes out of mild flat iron and welded each onto the outside of the tabs so they are semi-boxed on the outside edges. Each c-shape brace also has two holes drilled large enough so the attaching bolts/nuts pass through, rather than clamp over, the brace.

I second that! a brace going from one shock to the other will accomplish almost nothing on our cars... if you get to the point where you need to brace it... a nice cage with properly laid out rear stringers (not the way the drag racing cages go) will give a ton of support. That being said, the rear on F-bodies are pretty decent... it's the front that needs more bracing.
